Asymmetry of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Phase transitions are typically assumed to behave identically in forward and reverse. This work shows that in the ferroelectric material barium titanate this is not true: heating drives an abrupt, first‐order jump, while cooling gives a smooth, continuous change.

Wear of Hot-Pressed Aluminum Nitride

open access: yesJournal of the Ceramic Association, Japan, 1986

LEAD: Literature Enhanced Ab Initio Discovery of Nitride Dusting Layers for Enhanced Tunnel Magnetoresistance and Lower Resistance Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) using MgO tunnel barriers face challenges of high resistance‐area product and low tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR). To discover alternative materials, Literature Enhanced Ab initio Discovery (LEAD) is developed. The LEAD‐predicted materials are theoretically evaluated, showing that MTJs with dusting of ScN or TiN on ...

Multi-walled microchannels: free-standing porous silicon membranes for use in µTAS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Electrochemically formed porous silicon (PS) can be released from the bulk silicon substrate by underetching at increased current density. Using this technique, two types of channels containing free-standing layers of PS were constructed, which were ...

Laser‐Based Solidification of Cermets/Cemented Carbides: Processing‐Microstructure‐Property Relationships

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Recent research on laser‐processed cermets and cemented carbides highlights significant advancements, yet a notable paucity of studies and persistent challenges remain. Efforts are increasingly focused on developing low‐cost, environmentally friendly cermets as alternatives to conventional materials.
