Breeding Maize (Zea mays L.) for Aluminum Tolerance through Heterosis and Combining Ability

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy
Soil acidity, a major threat to food security in developing countries, can cause a staggering 71% decline in maize (Zea mays L.) production. Identifying the genetic basis of aluminum tolerance is crucial for developing improved varieties.

Different effects of aluminum toxicity on primary roots of two barley cultivars with different aluminum-tolerance

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2018
To reveal the biological role of aluminum (Al)-tolerant mechanism in barley Al toxicity, the Altolerant cultivar Humai 8 and Al-sensitive cultivar Shengxian awnless six-rowed barley (Shengxian 6) were used as experimental materials, and treated with ...

Heterologous Expression of a Glycine soja C2H2 Zinc Finger Gene Improves Aluminum Tolerance in Arabidopsis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020
Aluminum (Al) toxicity limits plant growth and has a major impact on the agricultural productivity in acidic soils. The zinc-finger protein (ZFP) family plays multiple roles in plant development and abiotic stresses.

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

Image-based modeling in the selection of cowpea genotypes for aluminum tolerance

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical
In acidic soils, one of the main factors limiting crop yield is the presence of aluminum. However, some species may exhibit tolerance and mitigate the toxic effects of this element.

Repression of Mitochondrial Citrate Synthase Genes by Aluminum Stress in Roots of Secale cereale and Brachypodium distachyon

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Aluminum (Al) toxicity in acid soils influences plant development and yield. Almost 50% of arable land is acidic. Plants have evolved a variety of tolerance mechanisms for Al.

An InDel in the Promoter of Al-ACTIVATED MALATE TRANSPORTER9 Selected during Tomato Domestication Determines Fruit Malate Contents and Aluminum Tolerance[OPEN]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell, 2017
Sl-ALMT9, directly regulated by Sl-WRKY42, contributes to fruit malate accumulation both in fruit and root and enhances aluminum tolerance of tomato. Deciphering the mechanism of malate accumulation in plants would contribute to a greater understanding ...
