Intermediate bone grafting of alveolar clefts
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1988During the five year period 1980 to 1985 bone grafting was performed in 37 cleft patients before the eruption of the canine tooth (group IBG) and in 30 patients after the eruption of the canine tooth (group SGB). The initial healing was more favourable in the IBG group. In 72.5% of the clefts oro-nasal fistulae were present preoperatively. In all cases

Secondary (Intermediate) Alveolar Bone Grafting
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1993Secondary bone grafting of the maxilla and the residual alveolar clefts at the stage of transitional dentition, and in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, has become a well-accepted treatment modality. This article discusses the goals of the procedure, the timing of the bone graft, and the design of the flap for soft-tissue coverage of the bone ...

Racial Disparities in the Timing of Alveolar Bone Grafting
The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, 2022Objective: Standard bone grafting between ages 6 and 12 has become the preferred treatment of choice for alveolar clefts. Given the importance of surgical timing in complete cleft palate repairs, it is important to identify any populations at-risk for delayed alveolar ...

Vestibuloplasty after Secondary Alveolar Bone Grafting
The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, 2001Objective: This paper introduces a surgical technique for vestibuloplasty after secondary alveolar bone grafting of patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP). This paper also reports on the patients who underwent this modified vestibuloplasty.

Alveolar cleft bone grafts customarily have been evaluated by one-dimensional dental radiographic measurements. Based on the dental radiograph, remarkable successes with just a single bone graft have been reported in the literature. At the Montreal Children's Hospital, the experience with 101 alveolar bone grafts in 62 cleft lip and palate patients was

Bone Materials Available for Alveolar Grafting
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2010The restoration of bony defects has followed an interesting course through history. From the early use of animal materials to bone grown in the laboratory, the goal of restoring bony defects has generated ingenuity in solving these significant clinical challenges.

Predictors of complication for alveolar cleft bone graft
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2014We have analysed the predictors of postoperative complications and the need for reoperation after grafting of the alveolar cleft from one specialised cleft centre. The data were obtained from hospital casenotes of patients operated on from December 2004 to April 2010, with a minimum one-year follow-up from the final operation.

Primary (Early) Alveolar Bone Grafting
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1993Early primary bone grafting is successful when performed as a separate operative procedure after lip repair and before palate closure. It must be done in conjunction with neonatal orthopedics. The graft is placed only after the alveolar segments have molded and grown to a butt joint.

Alveolar cleft bone grafting (Part II): Secondary bone grafting
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1996Despite nearly a century of surgical experience in alveolar cleft repair’ and grafting; significant controversy remains in regards to timing, sequencing, and graft selection. With refinement and popularization of techniques by Boyne and Sands,2 secondary alveolar grafting has become an integral part of most cleft palate and craniofacial centers ...
