Do Patients with Osteoporosis Have Higher Risk to Present Reduced Alveolar Ridge Height? An Imaging Analysis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research, 2019
Background: Osteoporosis and periodontitis are both diseases that induce bone resorption. The objective of this study was to verify through panoramic radiography analysis whether patients with osteoporosis have a greater risk of periodontal disease ...

Thickness of the buccal bone wall and root angulation in the maxilla and mandible: an approach to cone beam computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: The objective of this paper is to anatomically describe the bone morphology in the maxillary and mandibular tooth areas, which might help in planning post-extraction implants.

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

Comparison of Diagnostic Accuracy of Conventional Intraoral Periapical and Direct Digital Radiographs in Detecting Interdental Bone Loss [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2015
Background: Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by specific microorganisms, resulting in destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone.

Assessment of Alveolar Bone and Periodontal Status in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 8–13% of the global population and has become one of the largest burdens on healthcare systems around the world. Peritoneal dialysis is one of the ultimate treatments for patients with severe CKD. Recently, increasing

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

Recapitulating Endochondral Ossification for Bone Repair: From Development to Engineering Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the developmental basis of endochondral ossification (ECO) and its applications in bone tissue engineering (BTE). It first outlines the key biological processes and signaling pathways underlying ECO, then discusses biomaterial‐based engineering strategies derived from these principles, and finally highlights future directions for

Inhibition of RANKL and Sema4D improves residual ridge resorption in mice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Residual ridge resorption (RRR) is a chronic and progressive bone resorption following tooth loss. It causes deterioration of the oral environments and leads to the pathogenesis of various systemic diseases.
