Ecol EvolHorizontal gene transfer (HGT) has been proposed as an important contributor to plant genome evolution, with hundreds of candidate genes reported across kingdoms. By reanalyzing published cases with updated genomic data and phylogenetic reconstructions, we found that only 29.3% remain consistent with interkingdom HGT.
