Machine learning methods for developments of binding kinetic models in predicting protein‐ligand dissociation rate constants

open access: yesSmart Molecules, Volume 1, Issue 3, December 2023., 2023
This paper develops a variety of binding kinetic models for predicting dissociation rate constants using eight machine learning methods, which are tested by two case studies involving the HSP90 and RIP1 kinase inhibitors. Both regression results of the two case studies indicate that the Bayesian neural network model has the state‐of‐the‐art prediction ...

Flood vulnerability and risk assessment of historic urban areas: Vulnerability evaluation, derivation of depth‐damage curves and cost–benefit analysis of flood adaptation measures applied to the historic city centre of Tomar, Portugal

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 16, Issue 3, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Around 45% of natural hazards reported worldwide are related to floods, and current indications show that exposure to floods and inherent losses will keep escalating. Historic centres are particularly vulnerable in this context due to the structural and material characteristics of the buildings and because they embrace social and cultural ...

Imaging of KCa3.1 Channels in Tumor Cells with PET and Small‐Molecule Fluorescent Probes

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 18, Issue 2, January 17, 2023., 2023
Highly aggressive human tumors use the Ca2+ activated K+ channel KCa3.1. for key processes of the metastatic cascade. Imaging of the KCa3.1 channel in vitro and in vivo represents a valuable diagnostic and prognostic tool. A 18‐fluorine labeled senicapoc‐based PET tracer showed promising imaging properties in vivo.

3,5‐Dinitrobenzoate and 3,5‐Dinitrobenzamide Derivatives: Mechanistic, Antifungal, and In Silico Studies

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Fungal infections, including those caused by Candida spp., are recognized in immunocompromised individuals for their high rates of morbidity and mortality. Microorganism resistance to conventional drugs compromises treatment effectiveness and yet also reveals the need to develop new drugs.

Proximity across the distant worlds of university–industry collaborations

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 100, Issue 3, Page 689-711, June 2021., 2021
Abstract This paper examines the extent to which firms perceive different dimensions of proximity to be important for the formation of their interactions with universities. Furthermore, it investigates whether the importance of the different types of proximities varies depending on the type of interaction—be it about knowledge exploration, knowledge ...

Cytotoxic and Antifungal Amides Derived from Ferulic Acid: Molecular Docking and Mechanism of Action

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Amides derived from ferulic acid have a wide spectrum of pharmacological activities, including antitumor and antifungal activity. In the present study, a series of ten amides were obtained by coupling reactions using the reagents (benzotriazol‐1‐yloxy) tripyrrolidinophosphonium hexafluorophosphate (PyBOP) and N,N ′ -dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC).
