Mitochondrial Markers COI and 16S rRNA for the Molecular Identification of Parrots and Macaws Recovered From Illegal Trafficking in Three Areas of Colombia. [PDF]
Ecol EvolWe molecularly characterized parrots (Amazona spp.) and macaws (Ara spp.) rescued from illegal trafficking in Colombia using two mitochondrial markers (COI and 16S rRNA). The COI gene showed high resolution for species identification and revealed considerable intraspecific diversity, while 16S rRNA displayed limited taxonomic resolution.
