Cascade of flight interception traps for large scale exploration of the otherwise unreachable canopy insect fauna

open access: yesScientific Reports
We present here an efficient system of flight intercept traps developed to be set at the forest structure in tropical or temperate environments to assess the vertical structure of the insect fauna, including the ground level and the canopy at different ...

Classifying avian drinking behaviour: ecological insights and implications in a changing world

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Water is a fundamental currency of life, and its availability significantly influences animal behaviour, physiology and distributions. However, our knowledge around the dependence on water for drinking and the direct and indirect mechanisms driving related behaviours remains partial in the context of changing climates. Here, we review patterns

Macroecological relationships of ant diversity with increasing aridity in Australian tropical savannas: contrasting responses of epigaeic and hypogaeic assemblages

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Studies using climatic gradients play a key role in our understanding of the importance of rainfall and temperature as factors regulating species diversity and distribution, and thus of likely responses to climate change. However, such studies currently consider above‐ground species only, ignoring the diverse hypogaeic (subterranean) invertebrate fauna.

Coherence Between Climate and Land Use Policies of the European Union, Brazil, and Indonesia: A Primer to Analyze Potential GHG Leakage

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Incoherence between national land use policies may weaken climate mitigation efforts by creating conditions under which agricultural and forestry production and GHG emissions are displaced across borders (leakage). Coherence depends on constellations and prioritization of national policy aims in land use (production) and climate (conservation).

Impacts of urbanization on energy balance in a central Amazonia city

open access: yesScientific Reports
We investigate the components of radiation and energy balance and heat storage flux in an urban area of Central Amazonia, during the wet and dry seasons of 2022.

Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.

Phenotypic, physicochemical, sensory, and functional attributes of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) from Brazilian Amazonian floodplain and upland ecosystems

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) from the Brazilian Amazon plays an important role in national production. While most cocoa is cultivated in upland systems, floodplain ecosystems represent a traditional and distinct production environment that may influence bean composition and quality.

Update on Ouratea cidiana Sastre (Ochnaceae), a microendemic species from the Amazon: enlightening the identity and conservation status

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Ouratea cidiana (Ochnaceae) is a microendemic shrub species from the Brazilian Amazonia, occurring along the banks of the Trombetas River and restricted to the Cachoeira Porteira region, in western Pará State. Since the original collection nearly forty years ago, no additional records have been made, which is concerning given the continuous decline in ...
