Pattern-Based Decoding for Wi-Fi Backscatter Communication of Passive Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Ambient backscatter communication enables passive sensors to convey sensing data on ambient RF signals in the air at ultralow power consumption. To extract data bits from such signals, threshold-based decoding has generally been considered, but suffers ...

Outage Analysis of Ambient Backscatter Communication Systems [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Letters, 2018
This paper addresses the problem of outage characterization of an ambient backscatter communication system with a pair of passive tag and reader. In particular, an exact expression for the effective channel distribution is derived. Then, the outage probability at the reader is analyzed rigorously.

Freeform Fabrication of Layered Halide Perovskite Nanowire Heterojunctions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
‘All‐at‐once’ freeform fabrication of layered perovskite nanowire heterojunctions is realized by 3D printing employing meniscus‐guided crystallization. The integration of nanoscale additive manufacturing with layered halide perovskites will provide a versatile platform to freely design and realize highly stable perovskite‐based optoelectronic ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Why Autonomous Vehicles Are Not Ready Yet: A Multi‐Disciplinary Review of Problems, Attempted Solutions, and Future Directions

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Personal autonomous vehicles can sense their surrounding environment, plan their route, and drive with little or no involvement of human drivers. Despite the latest technological advancements and the hopeful announcements made by leading entrepreneurs, to date no personal vehicle is approved for road circulation in a “fully” or “semi ...

Collaborative Sampling and Imaging of Phytoplankton Communities by Two Long‐Range Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Using Acoustic Tracking and Messaging

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Collaborative operation of multiple autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) can effectively achieve scientific goals that are hard to achieve by independently operated vehicles. Some science payloads are large, expensive, and need to be installed in the vehicle's nose cone. A vehicle can only carry one such payload.

Thousand‐Kilometer‐Scale Wavelike Undulations in Ionospheric Plasma Bubble Lifetime and Development Over Wide Longitudes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract The irregularities of ionospheric plasma bubbles (EPBs) sequentially generated over wide longitudes are expected to share similar lifetime under normal conditions. In this study, we report a special case where the EPB irregularity lifetime over wide longitudes showed a quasi‐wavelike undulation pattern with wavelength of ∼3,000 km, that is ...
