Reflective dual-mode liquid crystal display possessing low power consumption and high contrast ratio under ambient light

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We propose a reflective dual-mode liquid crystal display (RD-LCD) which has advantages of long memory retention time and high contrast ratio. The proposed device adopts ideal bistable characteristics, a cell thickness over pitch (d/p) of 0.25. It can realize long memory retention time, thereby reducing power consumption.

Legibility of electroluminescent instrument panels investigated [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Legibility studies of several EL /electroluminescent/ displays correlate reading time and accuracy with number size, stroke/width ratio, indicia size, pointer width, contrast, ambient illumination, and color background and and contrast.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Empirical Modeling of the Global Distribution of Magnetosonic Waves with Ambient Plasma Environment using Van Allen Probes

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
It is suggested that magnetosonic waves (also known as equatorial noise) can scatter radiation belt electrons in the Earth’s magnetosphere. Therefore, it is important to understand the global distribution of these waves between the proton cyclotron ...

Elevated CO2 does not increase eucalypt forest productivity on a low-phosphorus soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rising atmospheric CO2 stimulates photosynthesis and productivity of forests, offsetting CO2 emissions. Elevated CO2 experiments in temperate planted forests yielded ~23% increases in productivity over the initial years.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Analytical Study of the Bed Roughness and Entrainment Ratio of Saline Density Currents on Hydraulic Jump [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی منابع آب, 2017
Density current is produced due to a density contrast with the ambient fluid. This density difference can result from dissolved solids, suspended materials, temperature, etc.
