Ambient noise tomography of the western Corinth Rift, Greece [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2017
Three years of continuous waveform data recorded at 22 stations from the Corinth Rift Laboratory and the Hellenic Unified Seismological Network are used to perform an ambient noise surface-wave tomography of the western Corinth Rift. All available vertical component time-series were cross-correlated to extract empirical Rayleigh-wave Green's functions.

High-performance CPU-GPU heterogeneous computing method for 9-component ambient noise cross-correlation

open access: yesEarthquake Research Advances
Ambient noise tomography is an established technique in seismology, where calculating single- or nine-component noise cross-correlation functions (NCFs) is a fundamental first step.

Ambient noise tomography of El Hierro island (Canary Islands)

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
El Hierro island is one of the most active islands in the Canary Islands from a volcanological point of view. This is the reason why the imaging of the internal crustal structure is of huge importance.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Ambient Noise Attenuation Tomography Reveals an Asymmetric Damage Zone Across San Jacinto Fault Near Anza, California

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
We perform seismic attenuation tomography of the shallow structure for the San Jacinto Fault in the Ramona Reservation of southern California. The study uses ambient seismic noise recorded by a linear array of 65 3‐C sensors across the fault.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Ambient noise Rayleigh wave tomography of New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2007
SUMMARY We present the first New Zealand-wide study of surface wave dispersion, using ambient noise observed at 42 broad-band stations in the national seismic network (GeoNet) and the Global Seismic Network (GSN). Year-long vertical-component time-series recorded between 2005 April 1 and 2006 March 31 have been correlated with one another to yield ...

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Green’s Function, Earthquakes, and a Fast Ambient Noise Tomography Methodology

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Green’s function plays an important role in the relationship of a future strong earthquake epicenter to the average earthquake potential score. In the frame of the latter, the fractal dimension of the unified scaling law for earthquakes naturally arises.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
