Solid-state recoverable fuse functions as circuit breaker [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Molded, conductive-epoxy recoverable fuse protects electronic circuits during overload conditions, and then permits them to continue to function immediately after the overload condition is removed.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Impact of low temperature on smartphone battery consumption

open access: yesJournal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation, 2013
Most smartphones employ Li-ion(or Li-polymer)batteries as their power sources.Though battery consumption significantly varies along with the cell temperature, which is severely affected by ambient temperature, many studies simply assume that the cell ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Coincident brane nucleation and the neutralization of \Lambda [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Nucleation of branes by a four-form field has recently been considered in string motivated scenarios for the neutralization of the cosmological constant.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Ambient-temperature co-oxidation catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes
Oxidation catalysts which operate at ambient temperature were developed for the recombination of carbon monoxide (CO) and oxygen (O2) dissociation products which are formed during carbon dioxide (CO2) laser operation.

Sol–Gel Derived Polymer Precursors for Stereolithography of ZrC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
ZrC is a critical material target for extreme temperature conditions. This report describes a protocol for preparing ZrC ceramics via stereolithography and examines the impact of the polymer matrix on carbothermal reduction and mechanical stability of 3D printed ZrC.

A PHYB-PIF4-auxin module promotes tomato graft formation in response to elevated ambient temperature

open access: yesHorticultural Plant Journal
Grafting is an effective technique for increasing the resistance of vegetables to biotic and abiotic stresses. It has been widely applied to produce solanaceous and melon vegetables.
