Heterogeneity in the Global Practice of Central Nervous System Staging in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is assessed by cell counting and cytomorphology from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and is used for treatment stratification worldwide. The ratio of “CNS2” patients in clinical trials ranges from 3% to 40%, with unclear prognostic significance ...

A meta-analysis of work demand stressors and job performance: examining main and moderating effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We quantitatively integrated 169 samples (N= 35,265 employees) that have been used to investigate the relationships of the following 7 work-related stressors with job performance: role ambiguity, role conflict, role overload, job insecurity, work–family ...

Local Azimuth Ambiguity-to-Signal Ratio Estimation Method Based on the Doppler Power Spectrum in SAR Images

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, azimuth ambiguity is one of the important factors that affect image quality. Generally, the azimuth ambiguity-to-signal ratio (AASR) is a measure of the azimuth ambiguity of SAR images.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Is multilingualism linked to a higher tolerance of ambiguity?

open access: yes, 2013
The present study investigates the link between multilingualism and the personality trait Tolerance of Ambiguity (TA) among 2158 mono-, bi- and multilinguals. Monolinguals and bilinguals scored significantly lower on TA compared to multilinguals.

Optimal Insurance for a Minimal Expected Retention: The Case of an Ambiguity-Seeking Insurer

open access: yesRisks, 2016
In the classical expected utility framework, a problem of optimal insurance design with a premium constraint is equivalent to a problem of optimal insurance design with a minimum expected retention constraint.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

A Complementary Dual of Single-Valued Neutrosophic Entropy with Application to MAGDM

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
A single-valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) is a subcategory of neutrosophic set that is used to represent uncertainty and fuzziness in three tiers, namely truthfulness, indeterminacy, and falsity.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...
