Antioxidant properties of ambroxol
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1994We tested whether Ambroxol, a drug which stimulates the release of surfactant by pneumocytes type II, may also possess antioxidant properties. To assess the reactivity of Ambroxol with reactive oxygen species, we analysed its ability to decompose hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and to inhibit the superoxide (O2.-)-dependent autooxidation of pyrogallol ...

In vitro and in vivo antioxidant activity of ambroxol
Clinical and Experimental Medicine, 2004In addition to a mucolytic action, ambroxol has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The antioxidant effects of ambroxol were studied both in vitro and in vivo. In vitro methods, such as (1) inhibition of hyaluronic acid degradation induced by hydroxy radicals and (2) standard lipid peroxidation assay in rat liver mitochondria and gastric ...

Effect of Ambroxol of neutrophil chemotaxisin vitro
Agents and Actions, 1988Ambroxol hydrochloride has been shown to protect the lung from damage by polymorphonuclear leucocyte (PMN). In view of this observation we have studied the effect of Ambroxol on PMN chemotaxis using a variety of chemoattractants. The PMN response was inhibited 50-80% by preincubating the cells with concentrations of 10(-4) M Ambroxol.

Ambroxol Is a Scavenger of Hypochlorous Acid and Monochloramine
Pharmacology, 1994Experimental studies have suggested that ambroxol, a drug clinically used to enhance pulmonary surfactant production, may also exert some anti-inflammatory effects, though specific mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Thus, potential scavenging properties of ambroxol towards the most toxic neutrophil-arising prooxidants hypochlorous acid and ...

A Controlled Trial of Ambroxol in Chronic Bronchitis
Chest, 1987Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent which is widely used in chronic bronchitis in Europe. We conducted a double-blind randomized controlled trial of ambroxol vs matched placebo in 90 patients with chronic bronchitis and difficulty clearing secretions. It was concluded that there was no advantage to taking ambroxol.

Ambroxol-Induced Focal Epileptic Seizure
Clinical Neuropharmacology, 2014It is well known that in epileptic patients some compounds and different drugs used for the treatment of comorbidities can facilitate or provoke seizures, this evidence regarding a wide spectrum of pharmacological categories. The potential facilitating factors usually include direct toxic effects or pharmacological interactions of either active ...
