Gynogenesis and Hybridization between Ambystoma platineum and Ambystoma texanum in Illinois

Two kinds of virtually unisexual, polyploid Ambystoma occur at Kickapoo State Park, Vermilion Co., Illinois. One is the triploid (3n = 42) A. platineum. The other is a tetraploid (4n = 56) hybrid A. platineum x A. texanum. Eggs of A. platineum from this locality do not cleave unless inseminated. There are no diploid members of the A.

Abstract Ambystoma mexicanum sensitised with dinitrofluorobenzene or heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis , when challenged with a supradermal application of the sensitising agent, exhibit cutaneous erythemas appearing after 4 hours. Migratory Orientation and Homing in Ambystoma maculatum and Ambystoma opacum

Migratory headings of adult Ambystoma maculatum and A. opacum and juvenile A. opacum were monitored via captures at a drift fence surrounding a temporary pond. Adult individuals of both species tended to enter and leave by the same route. Points of entry for two breeding seasons were found to be significantly positively correlated for A.

Brachycoelium ambystomae sp. n. is described from the marbled salamander, Ambystoma opacum (Gravenhorst), from Leon County, Florida. This species differs chiefly from the 11 other described members of the genus by its spination, distribution and development of vitellaria, position and size of its ovary and testes, and body length.

The Early Life History and Ecology of Ambystoma tigrinum and Ambystoma opacum in New Jersey

Sympatric populations of Ambystoma opacum and Ambystoma t. tigrinum were studied in ponds on the coastal plain of New Jersey. Ambystoma tigrinum bred during the "January thaw" and its eggs remained under ice for a month after deposition. Eggs were laid in the deepest parts of the ponds.
