Age-related macular degeneration: prevention and treatment. A review

open access: yesOftalʹmologiâ, 2014
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a multifactorial disease. Age, light exposure, smoking, melanin levels and low-antioxidant diet are contributed to AMD development and progression. Cardiovascular disorders are of considerable importance as well.

Antisymmetrized molecular dynamics of wave packets with stochastic incorporation of Vlasov equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
On the basis of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) of wave packets for the quantum system, a novel model (called AMD-V) is constructed by the stochastic incorporation of the diffusion and the deformation of wave packets which is calculated by ...

Lutein and zeaxanthin – radio- and chemoprotective properties. Mechanism and possible use

open access: yesRoczniki Panstwowego Zakladu Higieny, 2023
Lutein and zeaxanthin are naturally occurring xanthophylls, mainly present in green, leafy vegetables and egg’s yolk. Their presence is connected with blue spectrum light absorbance, including UV.

Effects of self-administered binaural beats on meditative and introspective states

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Emerging evidence suggests select binaural beat (BB) frequencies may enhance regulatory mood states, yet questions remain regarding their efficacy in naturalistic, self-administered settings. This study systematically assessed whether brief (five-minute)

Vascular Response to Sildenafil Citrate in Aging and Age-Related Macular Degeneration. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) - the leading cause of vision loss in the elderly - share many risks factors as atherosclerosis, which exhibits loss of vascular compliance resulting from aging and oxidative stress.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Isocaling and the Symmetry Energy in the Multifragmentation Regime of Heavy Ion Collisions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The ratio of the symmetry energy coefficient to temperature, $a_sym/T$, in Fermi energy heavy ion collisions, has been experimentally extracted as a function of the fragment atomic number using isoscaling parameters and the variance of the isotope ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for
