The Role of Lipopeptidophosphoglycan in the Immune Response to Entamoeba histolytica [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
The sensing of Pathogen Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs) by innate immune receptors, such as Toll‐like receptors (TLRs), is the first step in the inflammatory response to pathogens. Entamoeba histolytica, the etiological agent of amebiasis, has a surface molecule with the characteristics of a PAMP.

Amebic Liver Abscess: An Unusual Cause of Budd-Chiari Syndrome. [PDF]

open access: yesCase Rep Infect Dis
Amebiasis is a significant public health issue in tropical regions, with liver abscess as its most common extraintestinal complication. Budd–Chiari syndrome secondary to amoebic liver abscess is rare and seldom reported. We present a 37‐year‐old man with poorly controlled Type 1 diabetes who developed fever, abdominal pain and distension.

Discovery and Characterization of Multiple Classes of Human CatSper Blockers

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 17, Issue 15, August 3, 2022., 2022
High‐throughput screening identified seven hit series as novel inhibitors of the cation channel of sperm (CatSper), a validated male contraceptive target. CatSper channel blockade was confirmed by patch clamp electrophysiology. The most promising analog was found to be a potent CatSper inhibitor with high selectivity for CatSper over hCav1.2, hNav1.5 ...

First report on the molecular detection of Entamoeba bovis from the endangered wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee) in Nepal

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 799-807, March 2022., 2022
1. The Asiatic wild water buffalo is an endangered species that are present only two areas in Nepal. 2. Microscopic examination revealed 96% prevalence rate with four protozoan and five helminths’ parasites detected in wild water buffalo. 3. PCR and sequencing revealed the presence of highly prevalent species as Entamoeba bovis. 4.

Pharmaceuticals targeting signaling pathways of endometriosis as potential new medical treatment: A review

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 2489-2564, July 2021., 2021
Abstract Endometriosis (EM) is defined as endometrial tissues found outside the uterus. Growth and development of endometriotic cells in ectopic sites can be promoted via multiple pathways, including MAPK/MEK/ERK, PI3K/Akt/mTOR, NF‐κB, Rho/ROCK, reactive oxidative stress, tumor necrosis factor, transforming growth factor‐β, Wnt/β‐catenin, vascular ...

Chronic Diarrhea Caused by Amebic Colitis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The diagnosis of intestinal amebiasis is easily established based on colonoscopy, i.e. there is a specific characteristic of ulcer/lesion “discrete flask-shape ulcer” with normal mucosa among the ulcers.
