Molecular Cloning of an O-Methyltransferase from Adventitious Roots of Carapichea ipecacuanha [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Carapichea ipecacuanha produces various emetine-type alkaloids, known as ipecac alkaloids, which have long been used as expectorants, emetics, and amebicides. In this study, we isolated an O-methyltransferase cDNA from this medicinal plant.

The Aqueous Soluble Polyphenolic Fraction of Psidium guajava Leaves Exhibits Potent Anti‐Angiogenesis and Anti‐Migration Actions on DU145 Cells

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
The aqueous extract of Psidium guajava budding leaves (PE) bears an extremely high content of polyphenolic and isoflavonoids. Whether it could be used as an anti‐tumor chemopreventive in view of anti‐angiogenesis and anti‐migration, we performed the assay methods including the MTT assay to examine the cell viability; the ELISA assay to test the ...

The Role of Lipopeptidophosphoglycan in the Immune Response to Entamoeba histolytica

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
The sensing of Pathogen Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs) by innate immune receptors, such as Toll‐like receptors (TLRs), is the first step in the inflammatory response to pathogens. Entamoeba histolytica, the etiological agent of amebiasis, has a surface molecule with the characteristics of a PAMP.

The evaluation of the amebicidal activity of Eryngium planum extracts.

open access: yesActa poloniae pharmaceutica, 2014
Selected fractions of ethanolic extracts obtained from leaves and roots of Eryngium planum (Apiaceae) were evaluated in vitro for amebicidal activity against Acanthamoeba castellanii. This free-living ameba is the cause of Acanthamoeba keratitis, which is a painful, vision-impairing disease of the eyes, and chronic granulomatous amebic encephalitis ...
