Amenable groups and cellular automata [PDF]
We show that the theorems of Moore and Myhill hold for cellular automata whose universes are Cayley graphs of amenable finitely generated groups. This extends the analogous result of A. Machi and F. Mignosi “Garden of Eden configurations for cellular automata on Cayley graphs of groups” for groups of sub-exponential growth.

Background Previous studies have reported large socioeconomic inequalities in mortality from conditions amenable to medical intervention, but it is unclear whether these can be attributed to inequalities in access or quality of health care, or to ...

Recurrent points and discrete points for elementary amenable groups
Let βG be the Stone-Cech compactification of a group G, AG the set of all almost periodic points in βG, KG=cℓ[⋃{suppμφ:φ∈LIM(G)}] and RG the set of all recurrent points in βG.

Operator amenability of Fourier-Stieltjes algebras [PDF]
The notion of operator amenability was introduced by Z.-J. Ruan in 1995. He showed that a locally compact group G is amenable if and only if its Fourier algebra A(G) is operator amenable.

Characterizations of Amenable Groups [PDF]
Generalizing a construction of Banach from 1923 we obtain new criteria for the amenability of a locally compact group G. The relationship of these new criteria to known characterizations is then investigated, and in particular a formally strenghthened version of the von Neumann/Dixmier condition for amenability is established.

Growth functions for some uniformly amenable groups
We present a simple constructive proof of the fact that every abelian discrete group is uniformly amenable. We improve the growth function obtained earlier and find the optimal growth function in a particular case.

A large class of sofic monoids [PDF]
We prove that a monoid is sofic, in the sense recently introduced by Ceccherini-Silberstein and Coornaert, whenever the J-class of the identity is a sofic group, and the quotients of this group by orbit stabilisers in the rest of the monoid are amenable.

An amenability-like property of finite energy path and loop groups
We show that the groups of finite energy loops and paths (that is, those of Sobolev class $H^1$) with values in a compact connected Lie group, as well as their central extensions, satisfy an amenability-like property: they admit a left-invariant mean on ...

Subsemigroups of Amenable Groups [PDF]
Several authors have recently studied the problem of finding circumstances under which the amenability of a semigroup is inherited by a subsemigroup. It is known ([2] and [3]) that subgroups of an amenable group are amenable, but that in general subsemigroups of an amenable semigroup are not.

Background Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most common genetic muscle disease in human. We aimed to describe the genotype distribution in a large cohort of Chinese DMD patients and their delayed loss of ambulation by glucocorticoid (GC ...
