Causes of death among homeless people: a population-based cross-sectional study of linked hospitalisation and mortality data in England. [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research, 2019
Background: Homelessness has increased by 165% since 2010 in England, with evidence from many settings that those affected experience high levels of mortality. In this paper we examine the contribution of different causes of death to overall mortality in

Amenability and coamenability of algebraic quantum groups

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2002
We define concepts of amenability and coamenability for algebraic quantum groups in the sense of Van Daele (1998). We show that coamenability of an algebraic quantum group always implies amenability of its dual. Various necessary and/or sufficient conditions for amenability or coamenability are obtained.

Elementary amenable subgroups of R. Thompson's group F

open access: yes, 2005
The subgroup structure of Thompson's group F is not yet fully understood. The group F is a subgroup of the group PL(I) of orientation preserving, piecewise linear self homeomorphisms of the unit interval and this larger group thus also has a poorly ...

Bowen entropy for actions of amenable groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bowen introduced a definition of topological entropy of subset inspired by Hausdorff dimension in 1973 \cite{B}. In this paper we consider the Bowen's entropy for amenable group action dynamical systems and show that under the tempered condition, the ...

Billingsley-Type Theorem of Weighted Bowen Topological Entropy for Amenable Group Actions

open access: yesMathematics
Let (Xi,di) be a compact metric space with metric di, i=1,2…,k, and G be a discrete infinitely countable amenable group. This paper is based on continuous actions G↷Xi on compact metric spaces (Xi,di).

On the Cohomology of Topological Semigroups

open access: yesCommunications in Advanced Mathematical Sciences, 2019
In this short note, we give some new results on continuous bounded cohomology groups of topological semigroups with values in complex field. We show that the second continuous bounded cohomology group of a compact metrizable semigroup, is a Banach space.

Collective Emotional Contagion in Zebrafish

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2021
Seeking to match our emotional state with one of those around us is known as emotional contagion-a fundamental biological process that underlies social behavior across several species and taxa.

Inner Amenable Locally Compact Groups [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1991
In this paper we study the relationship between amenability, inner amenability and property P P of a von Neumann algebra. We give necessary conditions on a locally compact group G G to have an inner invariant mean m m such that m ( V ) = 0 m(V) =

Equivariant Kirchberg-Phillips-type absorption for amenable group actions

open access: yes, 2018
We show an equivariant Kirchberg-Phillips-type absorption theorem for pointwise outer actions of discrete amenable groups on Kirchberg algebras with respect to natural model actions on the Cuntz algebras $\mathcal{O}_\infty$ and $\mathcal{O}_2$.

On amenability of automata groups [PDF]

open access: yesDuke Mathematical Journal, 2010
We show that the group of bounded automatic automorphisms of a rooted tree is amenable, which implies amenability of numerous classes of groups generated by finite automata. The proof is based on reducing the problem to showing amenability just of a certain explicit family of groups ("Mother groups") which is done by analyzing the asymptotic properties
