American cutaneous leishmaniasis is a major world health problem which is encountered more frequently in the Western world. The clinical features, diagnosis and treatment are described. Sodium stibogluconate is the mainstay of therapy, and should be administered in a dose of 20 mg/kg per day for 28 days.
