Troponin was isolated from the abdominal muscle of the American lobster (Homarus americanus) by essentially the same method as used for akazara scallop troponin [J. Biol. Chem. 261, 16749-16754 (1986)]. The thus isolated troponin together with lobster tropomyosin confers high Ca2(+)-sensitivity to rabbit reconstituted actomyosin.

Economic diversity of Maine's American lobster fishery
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2023Maine's coastal communities critically depend on the American lobster fishery, which is now exposed to ocean warming. There is uncertainty about the future robustness of the stock and the economic performance of the fleet appears vulnerable. This research characterizes economic heterogeneity in Maine's fishing fleet using latent class stochastic ...

Soft Defect-Tolerant Material Inspired by American Lobsters
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2020The joint membrane of the American lobster shows an excellent combination of high strength, toughness, and defect tolerance due to the periodic helicoidal stacking of the fiber layers that are connected by a weak continuous matrix. Inspired by the joint membrane of American lobsters, we simply use nonwoven fabrics and silicon rubber to fabricate a ...

Plastic pollution affects American lobsters, Homarus americanus
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2019This paper provides the first record of ingestion of plastic debris by American lobster, Homarus americanus. Plastics particles, identified as rubber pieces, were found in the stomachs of 3 from 17 individuals of lobsters kept in laboratory conditions. Debris had evidence of cuts, what suggest they were actively consumed.

An Econometric Model for American Lobster
Marine Resource Economics, 1988An econometric model for the wholesale and ex-vessel markets of American lobster, Homarus americanus, was developed to determine the market impact of proposed increases in the minimum size for American lobster. Prices were found tobe inflexible with respect to landing, imports, and income (i.
