MAS NMR detection of hydrogen bonds for protein secondary structure characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Hydrogen bonds are essential for protein structure and function, making experimental access to long-range interactions between amide protons and heteroatoms invaluable. Here we show that measuring distance restraints involving backbone hydrogen atoms and

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

Carbon Dioxide Capture on Metal-organic Frameworks with Amide-decorated Pores [PDF]

open access: yesNanochemistry Research, 2018
CO2 is the main greenhouse gas emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels and is considered a threat in the context of global warming. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) schemes embody a group of technologies for the capture of CO2 from power plants ...

Physical limit to concentration sensing amid spurious ligands [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 115, 038102 (2015), 2015
To adapt their behaviour in changing environments, cells sense concentrations by binding external ligands to their receptors. However, incorrect ligands may bind nonspecifically to receptors, and when their concentration is large, this binding activity may interfere with the sensing of the ligand of interest.

Two-dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy of vibrational polaritons of molecules in an optical cavity

open access: yes, 2016
Strong coupling of molecular vibrations to an infrared cavity mode affects their nature by creating dressed polariton states. We show how the single and double vibrational polariton manifolds may be controlled by varying the cavity coupling strength, and

GDP‐fucose transporter SLC35C1: a potential regulatory role in cytosolic GDP‐fucose and fucosylated glycan synthesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inactivation of SLC35C1 (GDP‐fucose transporter) and enzymes involved in GDP‐fucose biosynthesis was studied. Fucose supplementation increases the level of GDP‐fucose to abnormal, millimolar values in the absence of the TSTA3 protein and SLC35C1 in contrast to the GMDS/SLC35C1 double mutant.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 2-{[7-acetyl-4-cyano-6-hydroxy-8-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,6-dimethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinolin-3-yl]sulfanyl}-N-phenylacetamide

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2021
The title molecule, C29H29N3O4S, adopts a conformation with the two phenyl substituents disposed on opposite sides of the mean plane of the isoquinoline unit.

Weak Interactions in Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) -- Tertiary Amide Solutions: the Versatility of DMSO as a Solvent [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The structures of equimolar mixtures of the commonly used polar aprotic solvents dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethylacetamide (DMAc) in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) have been investigated via neutron diffraction augmented by extensive hydrogen/deuterium isotopic substitution.

The effect of protein backbone hydration on the amide vibrations in Raman and Raman optical activity spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Raman and specifically Raman optical activity (ROA) spectroscopy are very sensitive to the solution structure and conformation of biomolecules. Because of this strong conformational sensitivity, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are often used

Enhanced Mechanical Properties of Injectable Chitosan–Guar Gum Hydrogel Reinforced with Bacterial Cellulose Nanofibers for Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the development and characterization of injectable nanocomposite hydrogels based on N‐succinyl chitosan, oxidized guar gum, and bacterial cellulose nanofibers. Emphasizing enhanced mechanical properties and biocompatibility, the hydrogels exhibit fast gelation, improved structural integrity, and reduced swelling. Their potential for
