Urinary beta-aminoisobutyric acid excretion in thalassaemia [PDF]
The quantity of beta-aminoisobutyric acid (BAIB) excreted in the urine of patients with an intact spleen suffering from thalassaemia major appears to be proportional to the number of the circulating normoblasts and inversely proportional to the haemoglobin level. After splenectomy only minute amounts of BAIB are excreted.

Exploring the Use of Helicogenic Amino Acids for Optimising Single Chain Relaxin-3 Peptide Agonists
Relaxin-3 is a highly conserved two-chain neuropeptide that acts through its endogenous receptor the Relaxin Family Peptide-3 (RXFP3) receptor. The ligand/receptor system is known to modulate several physiological processes, with changes in food intake ...

New approaches to investigating the function of mycelial networks [PDF]
Fungi play a key role in ecosystem nutrient cycles by scavenging, concentrating, translocating and redistributing nitrogen. To quantify and predict fungal nitrogen redistribution, and assess the importance of the integrity of fungal networks in soil for ...

Validation of the determination of amino acids in plasma by high-performance liquid chromatography using automated pre-column derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde [PDF]
A sensitive and reproducible fully automated method for the determination of amino acids in plasma based on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and o-phthaldialdehyde pre-column derivatization is described.

The method of Kouklovsky and coworkers for the enantioselective alkylation of cyclic N-naphthoyl derivatives of amino acids was used to introduce a 13C label into one of the two enantiotopic methyl groups of 2-aminoisobutyric acid (Aib) by retentive ...

Energy Metabolism Under Stress: Late-Stage Leigh Syndrome Reveals Profound Cardiometabolic Perturbations in Ndufs4 KO Mice. [PDF]
Cardiac bioenergetic and metabolic perturbations in late‐stage Leigh syndrome. Whole‐body NDUFS4 loss severely impairs cardiac complex I activity and respiration, shifting reliance to complex II and reducing glycolytic, TCA, and amino acid‐derived energy‐generating substrates in the heart.
