Selective low concentration ammonia sensing in a microfluidic lab-on-a-chip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In the medical community, there is a considerable interest in a diagnostic breath analyzer for ammonia that is selectively enough to measure in exhaled air and small enough for the small volumes available in such an application.

The zinc finger domains of PARP‐1 are selectively and potently inhibited by the Au(I)‐based drugs sodium aurothiomalate and aurothioglucose

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
PARP‐1 is a key enzyme in the DNA damage response, and its inhibition induces cancer cell death via synthetic lethality. Au(I)‐based drugs, such as aurothioglucose and sodium aurothiomalate, block PARP‐1's DNA‐dependent activity by targeting its zinc finger domains.

Thermodynamic Analysis of Working Fluids for a New “Heat from Cold” Cycle

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Adsorptive Heat Transformation systems are at the interface between thermal and chemical engineering. Their study and development need a thorough thermodynamic analysis aimed at the smart choice of adsorbent-adsorptive pair and its fitting with a ...

Effect of Thiols for Nitrogen Reduction to Ammonia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ammonia is an important chemical used for fertilizers and also a potential carbon-free hydrogen storage medium. The Haber-Bosch process is the main production process, which requires large energy- and capital-input. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an

The nature of the potassium compound acting as a promoter in iron-alumina catalysts for ammonia synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
The chemical form of the potassium promoter on an iron-alumina catalyst during ammonia synthesis has been studied by two methods, viz, (i) the measurement of the equilibrium constant of the process KNH2 + H2 KH + NH3, and (ii) chemical analysis of the ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Moderately Reconstructed Ternary Metal Nitride Nanoparticles for Highly Efficient and Robust Freshwater and Seawater Oxidation under Industrial Current Density

open access: yesSmall Structures
Transition metal nitrides (TMNs) electrocatalysts experience rapid performance degradation during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to severe and irreversible electrochemical reconstruction, impeding their practical application in electrochemical water

Global oceanic emission of ammonia: constraints from seawater and atmospheric observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Current global inventories of ammonia emissions identify the ocean as the largest natural source. This source depends on seawater pH, temperature, and the concentration of total seawater ammonia (NHx(sw)), which reflects a balance between ...

Cis‐unsaturated sphingolipids support growth of sphingoid base‐deficient yeast but impair plasma membrane integrity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Sphingoid base structures, the sphingolipid backbones, vary among species. We established yeast cells in which the native sphingoid base was replaced with plant‐type bases containing cis or trans double bonds. This is, to our knowledge, the first eukaryotic model mostly composed of sphingolipids containing cis‐unsaturated sphingoid base, providing a ...
