Quaternary ammonium compounds

36. Savetovanje dezinfekcija, dezinsekcija i deratizacija jedan svet - jedno zdravlje - zbornik radova
Next to their positive role, microorganisms are associated with numerous undesirable effects, including many diseases, food spoilage, and decay. Humanity have been combating microorganisms for centuries. It was observed that water could be carried on long journeys in silver containers or with silver or copper coins, and food was preserved using salt ...

Di(phenylmercuri)ammonium compounds

Journal of the Chemical Society A: Inorganic, Physical, Theoretical, 1968
Reaction of phenylmercuric acetate and phenylmercuric chloride with concentrated aqueous ammonia yields di(phenylmercuri)ammonium compounds, (PhHg)2+X–(X = OAc or Cl). The structures of these compounds and of the corresponding nitrate and sulphate have been established by infrared spectroscopy.

Diquaternary Ammonium Compounds as Transfection Agents

Bioconjugate Chemistry, 2001
Diquaternary ammonium salts constitute a new class of reagent for mediating transfection of DNA in mammalian cell lines. N,N'-dioleyl-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,2-ethanediamine (TmedEce), N,N'-dioleyl-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,3-propanediamine (PropEce), N,N'-dioleyl-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,6-hexanediamine (HexEce), and their corresponding N,N'-dicetyl ...

Quaternary ammonium compounds and occupational asthma

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 2000
Quaternary ammonium compounds, among which benzalkonium chloride is one of the best-known, are commonly used as antiseptics, disinfectants, detergents and preservatives. They can cause occupational asthma, which however, has been rarely reported so far, despite wide use of these products. We report three such cases.

Quaternary Ammonium Compound Toxicity in Chickens

Avian Diseases, 1982
Two commercial White Leghorn flocks of 41,000 and 57,000 25-week-old hens experienced death losses of 676 and 1,089 birds in a week. Six birds from each flock were presented for necropsy to the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Purdue University with a clinical history of excessive deaths, unsatisfactory production, and dehydration. Gross lesions

Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

2012
The main cause of failure of biomedical implants is bacterial infections. Despite all efforts, it will never be possible to completely free operating theaters from bacteria, as human bodies contain already 1014 bacteria. Once on a surface, bacteria start proliferating, while protecting themselves with a slime layer against the immune system and ...

Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

2002
Quaternary ammonium chlorides (QACs) occupy a unique niche in the world of antimicrobial compounds. Rather than being a single, well-defined substance, as is the case for many such active ingredients, QACs are composed of a diverse, eclectic collection of substances that share a common chemical motif, namely a molecular structure containing a positively

Ototoxic Effect of Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1982
In earlier investigations by the author it has been shown that chlorhexidine, when introduced into the middle ear of guinea pigs, caused serious damage to the inner ear. The present investigation was performed in order to study if the quaternary ammonium compounds benzethonium chloride and benzalkonium chloride, frequently used for skin disinfection ...

Resorcinol‐based Bolaamphiphilic Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

ChemMedChem
AbstractQuaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) play crucial disinfectant roles in healthcare, industry, and domestic settings. Most commercially utilized QACs like benzalkonium chloride have a common architectural theme, leading to a rise in bacterial resistance and urgent need for novel structural classes.

Two potential energetic compounds: Ammonium superoxide and ammonium ozonide

Journal of Energetic Materials, 2000
Abstract Two proposed ionic compounds, NH4O2 and NH4O3, are discussed in terms of several properties related to energetic performance. These include oxygen content, moles of gas produced and heat released upon decomposition, and specific impulse. The heat release was calculated in each instance using the predicted lattice energy, which was obtained ...
