The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability to identify abnormalities in amniotic fluid volume by subjective ultrasonographic assessment compared to a semiobjective method. In 886 consecutive ultrasound examinations subjective assessment of the amniotic fluid volume was performed and graded into 3 categories: normal, decreased, and increased.

The Effects of Maternal Position on the Amniotic Fluid Index
Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 2006We investigated the influence of maternal positioning on the measurement of the amniotic fluid index (AFI) in third-trimester pregnancies. We wanted to determine whether a change in the position of the women, from supine-flat to supine-elevated, would influence the measurement of the AFI.Each patient had AFI measurements obtained in both positions by ...

Updating the amniotic fluid index nomograms according to perinatal outcome
Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2018Background: The two most commonly used nomograms for amniotic fluid index (AFI) were developed by Moore and Cayle and Magann et al. However, there are several inconsistencies between the two methods.

Amniotic Fluid Index Accuracy in Mid-Trimester
Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2009Objective: The aim of this trial was to evaluate the correlation between amniotic fluid index (AFI) and the real amniotic volume in mid-trimester pregnancies. Methods: Eight women with mid-trimester anhydramnios pregnancies were included. Patients gave their informed consent.

Our purpose was to determine the accuracy of the summated amniotic fluid index designed to estimate the total amniotic fluid volume in twin pregnancies. The summated amniotic fluid index was measured in 62 normal diamniotic twin pregnancies by adding the deepest vertical pockets in the four quadrants.
