Amoebicidal Effects of Contact Lens Disinfecting Solutions

Optometry and Vision Science, 2012
ABSTRACT Purpose. To compare the traditional manual hemacytometer method and an automated counter (Vi‐cell) to enumerate and distinguish between viable and non‐viable amoeba, and to determine the efficacies of contact lens (CL) disinfecting solutions against three species

Synthesis of diphenyl bisamidines as potential amoebicides

European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1996
Summary Various substituted diphenyl bisamidines were prepared and tested for antiamoebic activity in Golden hamsters and Wistar rats. Compounds 10 showed in vitro activity at 100 μg/mL and displayed excellent in vivo activity against hepatic infection in the hamster.

The therapeutic efficency of a new amoebicide among prison inmates

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1960
Abstract 1. 1) The insanitary conditions of the prison under which the present field test was performed do not make it the ideal subject for clinical trials as was originally supposed, owing to the high relapse and reinfection rate. These adverse reactions because of the environmental conditions did not detract from the value of the experiment ...

Amoebicidal and fungicidal activities of new quinazolones.

Arzneimittel-Forschung, 1982
Eleven quinazolones were synthesized by condensing 2-phenylanthranil with a suitable peptide in pyridine. The compounds synthesized were characterised by their sharp melting points, elemental analysis and IR spectra. The newly synthesized compounds were tested for their amoebicidal and fungicidal activities.

Amoebicidal effect of essential oils in vitro.

Journal de toxicologie clinique et experimentale, 1991
The toxic effect of 84 essential oils was tested at different concentrations on Entamoeba histolytica. 15 of them were the most efficient. 5 of the latter were detailed to give the percentages of their components. Some families of plants have shown an homogeneity in the toxicity of their essential oils, while others, to the contrary, have presented ...

Studies in structure and amoebicidal activity

1950
The aim of the present investigation was to obtain more information as to the relation between structure and amoebicidal activity in the aliphatic diamines. Trimethylenediamine was prepared from glutaric acid by Schmidt's reaction. Tetramethylenediamine was obtained by doing Hoftmann's reaction on adipamide.

Amoebicidal compounds from medicinal plants.

Parassitologia, 1996
A series of the natural constituents with amoebicidal activity isolated from several medicinal plants is shown. A list of the medicinal plants potentially active as amoebicide and/or against dysentery also is demonstrated. The present data grouping of the natural compounds and medicinal plants can be an important source of information for the selection
