AmoebaDB and MicrosporidiaDB: functional genomic resources for Amoebozoa and Microsporidia species [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2010
AmoebaDB (http://AmoebaDB.org) and MicrosporidiaDB (http://MicrosporidiaDB.org) are new functional genomic databases serving the amoebozoa and microsporidia research communities, respectively. AmoebaDB contains the genomes of three Entamoeba species (E. dispar, E. invadens and E. histolityca) and microarray expression data for E.

An update on the myxomycete biota (Amoebozoa: Myxogastria) of Colombia

open access: yesCheck List, 2012
Twelve new records of myxomycetes are reported for Colombia. These additions increase the number of myxomycetes known from this country to 108 species. Since the Colombian territory is part of a biodiversity-rich region in the heart of the Neotropics, the present effort may be considered as a minor contribution.

Ribosomal RNA Genes Challenge the Monophyly of the Hyalospheniidae (Amoebozoa: Arcellinida) [PDF]

open access: yesProtist, 2008
To date only five partial and two complete SSU rRNA gene sequences are available for the lobose testate amoebae (Arcellinida). Consequently, the phylogenetic relationships among taxa and the definition of species are still largely dependant on morphological characters of uncertain value, which causes confusion in the phylogeny, taxonomy and the debate ...

Database Release: PPSDB, a Linked Open Data Knowledge Base for Protist–Prokaryote Symbioses

open access: yesJournal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, Volume 72, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT As the ecological and evolutionary importance of symbiotic interactions between protists (microbial eukaryotes) and prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea) is better appreciated, keeping an overview of their diversity and the literature becomes a growing and ongoing challenge.

Ocorrência de tecamebas (Protozoa, Amoebozoa, Rhizopoda) em águas continentais brasileiras. II. Famílias Centropyxidae, Trigonopyxidae e Plagipyxidae

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2008

Mathematical modeling and comparison of protein size distribution in different plant, animal, fungal and microbial species reveals a negative correlation between protein size and protein number, thus providing insight into the evolution of proteomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background The sizes of proteins are relevant to their biochemical structure and for their biological function. The statistical distribution of protein lengths across a diverse set of taxa can provide hints about the evolution of proteomes. Results Using

All Organisms Can Be Anesthetized, but There's No Point?

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 47, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Because of their interest in medicine, most studies on anesthesia have historically focused on the nervous systems of animals. This has often led to the neglect of the fact that all life forms have the potential to be anesthetized. Anesthetics target proteins, such as four‐domain voltage‐dependent Na+/Ca2⁺ channels (4D‐NaV/CaV) and glutamate ...

Community transcriptomics reveals drainage effects on paddy soil microbiome across the three domains of life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018

Ancient Microbiomes as Mirrored by DNA Extracted From Century‐Old Herbarium Plants and Associated Soil

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 7, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Numerous specimens stored in natural history collections have been involuntarily preserved together with their associated microbiomes. We propose exploiting century‐old soils occasionally found on the roots of herbarium plants to assess the diversity of ancient soil microbial communities originally associated with these plants.
