Ribosomal RNA Genes Challenge the Monophyly of the Hyalospheniidae (Amoebozoa: Arcellinida) [PDF]

open access: yesProtist, 2008
To date only five partial and two complete SSU rRNA gene sequences are available for the lobose testate amoebae (Arcellinida). Consequently, the phylogenetic relationships among taxa and the definition of species are still largely dependant on morphological characters of uncertain value, which causes confusion in the phylogeny, taxonomy and the debate ...

Saccamoeba lotonii n. sp. – a new species of the genus Saccamoeba (Amoebozoa, Tubulinea, Hartmannellidae) with a polymorphic arrangement of the nucleolar material

open access: yesProtistology
Two strains of a new species named Saccamoeba lotonii n. sp. were isolated from moist plant debris collected in the vicinity of the Kremiotis Falls, Cyprus. In morphology, this species resembles Saccamoeba stagnicola Page, 1974.

A Highly Conserved SNARE‐Associated Protein Enhances Plant Immunity by Regulating Vesicle Trafficking

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 3426-3440, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The plant endomembrane system and vesicle trafficking are central to plant immunity, mediating the targeted delivery and recycling of defence molecules during pathogen attack. Here, we investigated the functional role of soybean Vacuole Membrane Protein 1 (GmVMP1) in mediating resistance against soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines).

AmoebaDB and MicrosporidiaDB: functional genomic resources for Amoebozoa and Microsporidia species [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2010
AmoebaDB (http://AmoebaDB.org) and MicrosporidiaDB (http://MicrosporidiaDB.org) are new functional genomic databases serving the amoebozoa and microsporidia research communities, respectively. AmoebaDB contains the genomes of three Entamoeba species (E. dispar, E. invadens and E. histolityca) and microarray expression data for E.

Impact of Fire and Heat Stress on Soil Microorganisms: A Review of Community Changes, Molecular Responses and Plant‐Beneficial Roles

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
This work reviewed the direct and indirect effects of fires on microbial communities and the resilience strategies microbes use to withstand high temperatures . ABSTRACT Fire, whether occurring on the surface or underground, significantly influences soil microbial dynamics by reshaping community composition, functional diversity and overall soil and ...

Unveiling Protist Composition and Diversity Patterns With eDNA Metabarcoding: Comparing Short‐ and Long‐Read Approaches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding is widely used for biodiversity monitoring, but short‐read sequencing limits detailed taxonomic identification, especially for protists. In a comparison of short‐ and long‐read approaches in the Belgian North Sea, long‐read metabarcoding provided deeper taxonomic assignment under the applied workflows and improved

Plant Lipid Droplets and Derived Lipidic Nano‐Assemblies: Structure, Biogenesis and Pharmaceutical Applications

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 1322-1343, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Lipid droplets (LDs) serve as the primary storage site for neutral lipids in plant cells, with growing evidence supporting many additional biological roles, such as in lipid homeostasis, signalling, trafficking, inflammatory responses and inter‐organelle communication.
