Positron Annihilation in Amorphous Alloys

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1979
The crystallization process of the amorphous Pd0.845Si0.155, Pd0.80Si0.20, and Ni0.81P0.19 alloys is studied by positron annihilation. The following experimental facts are found. 1. In the PdSi alloy, the changes of coincidence peak counts and h-parameters with temperature are consistent with the crystallization mechanism proposed by Masumoto and ...

Magnetic properties of amorphous alloys

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1978
Abstract The preparation of amorphous alloys, or glassy metals, is briefly described, and the basic magnetic properties of these materials are reviewed with emphasis on the properties that are important for engineering applications.

Superconductivity in amorphous actinide alloys

Physical Review B, 1985
Superconductivity has been studied in amorphous binary alloys of actinides containing Co, Fe, and Ni. Amorphous thorium alloys have critical temperatures of up to 3.8 K and electronic properties similar to other transition-metal amorphous alloys. By contrast, amorphous uranium alloys have critical temperatures below 1.0 K and exhibit two unusual ...

Tracer diffusion in amorphous alloys

Materials Science and Engineering, 1988
Abstract Self-diffusion in various iron-based amorphous metal-metalloid alloys and in amorphous metal-metal systems Fe x Zr 100−x was investigated using radioactive 59 Fe and 95 Zr tracer atoms in combination with ion-beam sputtering for serial sectioning.

Properties of amorphous Si:F:H alloys

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1980
Previously we have shown that amorphous silicon-based alloys containing F and H (1–7) possess desirable properties for photovoltaic application. Amorphous tetrahedral semiconductors ordinarily possess a very large density of states which act as traps leading to low values for drift mobility and low recombination lifetimes of free carriers.

Structure of amorphous metallic alloys and the conditions of amorphization

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 2000
The results of x-ray study of amorphous metal alloys are compared with the structural parameters of intermediate phases determined for equilibrium state diagrams and primary products of crystallization upon warming of amorphous alloys and crystal phases (formed at “subcritical” cooling rates) of the alloys susceptible to amorphization. It is found that

Diffusion mechanisms in amorphous alloys

Materials Science and Engineering, 1988
Abstract A critical analysis of experimental data shows that self-diffusion in relaxed amorphous alloys is controlled by mechanisms involving collective thermal activations. Whereas in FeZr alloys both 59Fe and 95Zr diffuse via direct mechanisms that change with the alloy composition (e.g.

Spin fluctuations in an amorphous alloy

Physical Review B, 1996
Enhancement of the effective electron mass by spin fluctuations (SF's) has been studied in a-${\mathrm{Fe}}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Zr}}_{100\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$ (27%\ensuremath{\leqslant}x\ensuremath{\leqslant}39%) by low-temperature calorimetry.

Bending of amorphous alloys

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1992
Abstract Fe-based and Ni-based amorphous foils with thicknesses of 25–30 μm have been used for bending experiments. First, the mechanical and physical properties of the foils were measured, after which bending experiments were carried out by four bending methods, i.e., conventional V-bending, L-bending with a lateral force, multi-stage V-bending and ...

Applications of Amorphous Magnetic Alloys

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2004
Examples of several recent developments in the use of amorphous magnetic alloys are summarized. They include from such devices as utility transformers for energy conservation, charged particle accelerators for energy generation, sensors to monitor energy flow and the environment, and telecommunication devices.
