Diverse bacteriophages for biocontrol of ESBL- and AmpC-β-lactamase-producing E. coli [PDF]

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Novel solutions are needed to reduce the risk of transmission of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and AmpC β-lactamase producing Escherichia coli (ESBL/AmpC E. coli) from livestock to humans. Given that phages are promising biocontrol agents,

Prevalence of plasmid-mediated AmpC β-lactamases among uropathogenic isolates in southwestern Iran [PDF]

open access: yesOsong Public Health and Research Perspectives, 2021
Objectives This study was undertaken to evaluate AmpC β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli urine isolates and to characterize the frequency of plasmid-mediated AmpC (pAmpC)-encoding genes. Methods Antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed using

An extended-spectrum AmpC-type β-lactamase obtained by in vitro antibiotic selection [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1998
A predictive approach was assayed to evaluate the possibility of mutant Amp-C beta-lactamase emergence with increased substrate spectrum (including new C-3' quaternary ammonium cephems). The ampC gene encoding the AmpC beta-lactamase from Enterobacter cloacae was cloned and expressed in an AmpC-defective strain of E. coli.

Decline in AmpC β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli in a Dutch teaching hospital (2013-2016). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
OBJECTIVE:The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of rectal carriage of plasmid- and chromosome-encoded AmpC β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp.

Salicylate decreases production of AmpC type β-lactamases and increases susceptibility to β-lactams in aMorganella morganiiclinical isolate [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2004
The effect of salicylate, a marRAB inducer, on the resistance to β-lactams was characterized in an AmpC β-lactamase hyperproducer Morganella morganii clinical isolate (the M1 strain). Results were compared with those of the effect of salicylate in a wild-type M. morganii strain.

Outbreak ofKlebsiella pneumoniaeproducing transferable AmpC-type β-lactamase (ACC-1) originating fromHafnia alvei [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2000
Fifty-two strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing an AmpC-type plasmid-mediated beta-lactamase were isolated from 13 patients in the same intensive care unit between March 1998 and February 1999. These strains were resistant to ceftazidime, cefotaxime and ceftriaxone, but susceptible to cefoxitin, cefepime and aztreonam.

Diversity of chromosomal AmpC β-lactamases fromEnterobacter cloacaeisolates in a Portuguese hospital [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2004
Six clinical isolates of Enterobacter cloacae isolated in a Portuguese hospital, between April 1999 and November 2000, demonstrated resistance to almost all broad-spectrum cephalosporins, except to cefepime. These isolates were susceptible to quinolones and to aminoglycosides. Isoelectric focusing demonstrated production of beta-lactamases with pIs > 8.
