An Analysis of the Complete Genome Sequence and Subgenomic RNAs Reveals Unique Features of the Ampelovirus, Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 1 [PDF]

open access: yesPhytopathology®, 2017
Despite being the first closterovirus documented in grapevines (Vitis sp.), the molecular biology of Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 1 (GLRaV-1, genus Ampelovirus, family Closteroviridae) is still in its infancy. In this study, the complete genome sequence of two GLRaV-1 isolates was determined to be 18,731 (isolate WA-CH) and 18,946 (isolate WA ...

Transcriptomic Analyses of Grapevine Leafroll-Associated Virus 3 Infection in Leaves and Berries of ‘Cabernet Franc’

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3 (GLRaV-3) is one of the most important viruses affecting global grape and wine production. GLRaV-3 is the chief agent associated with grapevine leafroll disease (GLRD), the most prevalent and economically destructive

The defective RNAs of Closteroviridae

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
The family Closteroviridae consists of two genera, Closterovirus and Ampelovirus with monopartite genomes transmitted respectively by aphids and mealybugs and the Crinivirus with bipartite genomes transmitted by whiteflies.

Silencing Suppressor Protein p26 of Areca Palm Velarivirus 1 (APV1) Interacts With SGS3 and Promotes Its Degradation Via the Ubiquitination Pathway

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 7, July 2026.
APV1‐encoded p26 protein is a multifunctional VSR that suppresses RNA silencing and blocks the systemic spread of silencing signals. p26 interacts with host SGS3, a key component of the plant antiviral silencing pathway, and targets SGS3 for accelerated degradation via the ubiquitination pathway.

Vector Biology of the Soft Scales Parthenolecanium corni (Bouché) and Parthenolecanium persicae (Fabricius) (Hemiptera: Coccidae) With Grapevine Leafroll‐Associated Viruses and Grapevine Virus A

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 3, Page 405-416, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Controlled experiments were conducted to enrich our knowledge on the transmission of different grapevine leafroll‐associated ampeloviruses (GLRaV‐1, ‐2, ‐3 and ‐4) by Parthenolecanium corni scale insect and to look for vector ability of Parthenolecanium persicae. GLRaV‐1 and the vitivirus GVA were transmitted by P.

Current status of pistachio diseases in countries of the Mediterranean Basin

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 73, Issue 8, Page 2005-2029, October 2024.
This review describes the main pistachio fungal diseases (canopy and soilborne diseases) in Mediterranean countries, followed by sporadic diseases worldwide. A specific section summarizes the main control strategies. Abstract In the Mediterranean Basin, the pistachio crop is considered an emerging nut crop due to the dependence of the European nut ...

Molecular characterization and population structure of blackberry vein banding associated virus, new ampelovirus associated with yellow vein disease

open access: yesVirus Research, 2013
Blackberry yellow vein disease is the most important viral disease of blackberry in the United States. Experiments were conducted to characterize a new virus identified in symptomatic plants. Molecular analysis revealed a genome organization resembling Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3, the type species of the genus Ampelovirus in the family ...
