A study of neural-related microRNAs in the developing amphioxus

open access: yesEvoDevo, 2011
Background MicroRNAs are small noncoding RNAs regulating expression of protein coding genes at post-transcriptional level and controlling several biological processes.

Actin isoforms in amphioxus Branchiostoma lanceolatum

open access: yes, 1998
Actin is a highly conserved cytoskeletal protein that is ubiquitous in all eukaryotes. Little is known about actin expression in amphioxus, the closest living relative of the vertebrates.

On the Fine Structure of the Amphioxus Photoreceptor

open access: yesThe Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1964
Amphioxus photoreceptors were investigated with electron microscope. The visual cell of the Becherauge has the Stiftchensaum as the photoreceptoral structure which is composed of microvilli of the visual cell surface. Immediately underlying the Stiftchensaum is the tubular zone which is formed by the well-developed endoplasmic reticulum.

Identification and Characterisation of five novel Miniature Inverted-repeat Transposable Elements (MITEs) in amphioxus (Branchiostoma floridae)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biological Sciences, 2006
As the sister group to vertebrates, amphioxus is consistently used as a model of genome evolution for understanding the invertebrate/vertebrate transition.

An amphioxus LIM-homeobox gene, AmphiLim1/5, expressed early in the invaginating organizer region and later in differentiating cells of the kidney and central nervous system

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biological Sciences, 2006
A LIM-homeobox gene, AmphiLim1/5, from the Florida amphioxus (Branchiostoma floridae) encodes a protein that phylogenetic analysis positions at the base of a clade comprising vertebrate Lim1 and Lim5.

The HMGA gene family in chordates: evolutionary perspectives from amphioxus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
High mobility group A proteins of vertebrates, HMGA1 and 2, are chromatin architectural factors involved in development, cell differentiation, and neoplastic transformation. Here, we characterize an amphioxus HMGA gene ortholog and analyze its expression.

The amphioxus Hairy family: differential fate after duplication

open access: yes, 2003
Vertebrate Hairy genes are highly pleiotropic and have been implicated in numerous functions, such as somitogenesis, neurogenesis and endocrine tissue development.

The role of thyrostimulin and its potential clinical significance

open access: yesEndocrine Regulations, 2017
Thyrostimulin is a glycoprotein heterodimer of GPA2 and GPB5, first described in 2002. It is involved in the physiological function of several tissues.
