On the Error Exponent of Amplify and Forward Relay Networks

IEEE Communications Letters, 2011
In this letter we derive the exact random coding error exponent of a dual hop amplify and forward (AF) relay network with channel state information (CSI) assisted ideal relay gain. Numerical results have been presented, which provide insight about the performance tradeoff between the error exponent and the data rate of the network.

Cooperative Amplify-and-Forward with Trellis Coded Modulation

2009 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, 2009
In a cooperative communication network, individual users are encouraged not only to transmit their own data, but also relay other user's data. This relaying transmission creates spatial diversity to combat the effect of individual severe fading and path loss.

On the Power Allocation for Cooperative Amplify-and-Forward Transmission

2007 IEEE 66th Vehicular Technology Conference, 2007
In this paper, efficient power allocation strategy for user cooperative transmission using amplify-and-forward (AF) approach is investigated. Power allocation is solved by finding the desirable ratio of power used for cooperative- information transmission to total power in an attempt to minimize bit error rate (BER) with a constraint of fixed total ...

Cooperative Phase Sweep Amplify-and-Forward Transmission

2008 IEEE 68th Vehicular Technology Conference, 2008
This work presents a new amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transmission scheme based on phase sweep transmit diversity. In a single hop cooperative link, the relay node imposes a phase sweep on the signal it receives from the source node.

Relay-Aided Amplify-and-Forward Powerline Communications

IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, 2013
Powerline communications (PLC) is a favorable technique for many smart grid applications. By transmitting information over the existing powerline infrastructure, PLC has the benefit of low deployment cost. However, due to low transmit power, limited bandwidth, and harsh channel conditions, reliable long-distance and high-capacity PLC is challenging ...

Distributed Amplify-and-Forward with Ring-TCM Codes

2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2010
This paper proposes a new distributed Amplify-and-Forward (AF) scheme which is integrated with the Ring-Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) codes in order to achieve both high spectral efficiency and large diversity gain. In the distributed AF scheme, more users cooperate with each other.

Overview of Amplify-and-Forward Relaying

2010
Amplify-and-Forward (AF) is a simple cooperative strategy for ad-hoc networks with critical power constraints. It involves an amplification of the received signal in the analogue domain at the relays without further signal processing. This chapter gives an overview of the basic AF protocols in the literature and discuss recent research contributions in

On the Outage Probability in Amplify-and-Forward Relay Channels

2009 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, 2009
The overall relay channel from the source to the destination via relays has temporal properties quite different from any cellular channel. This work presents a study for time-dependent performance of relay channels for both fast-fading and log-normal shadow fading in terms of average outage duration, frequency of outage and probability of outage ...

Multiple-Access Capabilities of Amplify-and-Forward Relaying

2015 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2014
This paper is concerned with the performance of a gateway connecting a group of independent users to their destinations and employ the random slotted- Aloha type protocol. The users are isolated from their destinations and the only way to communicate with their destinations is through the common gateway which acts as a blind amplify and forward relay ...

Robust Cooperative Relaying in an Amplify-and-Forward Network

2011 IEEE 73rd Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring), 2011
It has been shown that cooperative communication can significantly improve performance by utilizing distributed relay nodes. In most cases, cooperative communication systems have been designed and evaluated assuming perfect channel state information (CSI).
