A surgical approach for replantation of complete digital amputations

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1980
A technique of extending exposure in digital replantation using lateral incisions permits atraumatic exposure of adequate length of digital nerves, arteries, and veins, and excellent exposure for fashioning bone and debridement and repair of tendon. Increase in viability rates, the ability to repair two arteries per digit, the number of veins repaired ...

Amputation Levels and Surgical Techniques

1989
Upper-extremity amputation presents a complex loss for the patient. The hand functions in prehensile activities, as a sensory organ and as a means of communication. Any loss will interfere with the patient’s productivity, feeling of completeness, as well as alter his interactions with his environment.

DRY ICE FREEZING AS A PRELUDE TO SURGICAL AMPUTATION

Orthopedics, 1982
ABSTRACT: Emergency amputation in the critically ill is associated with 17 to 25% mortality, and a high rate of postoperative infection. Mortality arid morbidity can be reduced by freezing the diseased tissues with dry ice, and deferring surgery until the patient is rendered stable, and metabolically able to heal.
