A Pollen‐Enhanced Bionic Mechanoreceptor Induced by Asymmetric Ionic Convection in Hydrogel for Sensory‐Augmented Prostheses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 49, 3 September 2026.
This work proposed a pollen‐enhanced bionic mechanoreceptor based on ionic convection. Leveraging the ion anchoring effect of the pollen particle, the output performance could be ∼12 times higher than the original state. By employing deep learning models as AI brains, the feasibility of a sensory‐augmented prosthesis consisting of a pollen‐enhanced ...

A Device for Characterizing Skin Physiological Response to Mechanical Loading in Transtibial Prosthesis Users

open access: yesSensors
The skin’s physiological response to repetitive stress is not well understood in prosthesis users. Improving this understanding could facilitate the design of a diagnostic tool to determine if the skin is adapting to tolerate stress from a prosthetic ...

Thin Magnetically Permeable Targets for Inductive Sensing: Application to Limb Prosthetics

open access: yesSensors, 2019
The purpose of this research was to create a thin ferrous polymer composite to be used as a target for inductive sensing in limb prosthetics. Inductive sensors are used to monitor limb-to-socket distance in prosthetic sockets, which reflects socket fit ...

How Do Poverty, Insurance, and Government Assistance Impact Diabetic Foot Ulcer Outcomes? A Scoping Review

open access: yesDiabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, Volume 42, Issue 6, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims The social drivers of diabetic foot disease (SDDFD) impact ulcer incidence and outcomes, but how is relatively unknown. We aimed to build a conceptual model positing how three SDDFD—poverty, insurance, and government assistance—influence outcomes for patients with diabetic foot ulcers.

Development of a simulated transtibial amputee model

open access: yes, 2019
Currently, there are more than 30 million amputees in the world and each year thousands of people suffer from amputation and, therefore, the development of lower limb prostheses is crucial to improve the quality of millions of people's lives by restoring
