Comparison Between Portable and Bench‐Top Near‐Infrared Spectroscopy for Corn Silage Characterization Using Partial Least Square and Support Vector Regression Methods

open access: yesJournal of Chemometrics, Volume 39, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT In this work, bench‐top and portable near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy equipment are compared in the context of generating predictive models for the quantification of phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and nitrogen (N) components from corn silage samples.

From shake flasks to a bench‐scale bioreactor: scaling up exopolysaccharide production in fed‐batch cultivation of Ensifer meliloti SEMIA 135

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 100, Issue 9, Page 1818-1830, September 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND This study investigates the production scale‐up of exopolysaccharide (EPS) by Ensifer meliloti SEMIA 135 from shake flasks to a 5 L bench‐scale fed‐batch bioreactor. Soybean molasses was the cost‐effective nutrient source. The primary aim was to improve conditions for maximizing EPS yield and minimizing production costs.

Systematics of the Enigmatic Neotropical Rodent Genus Microakodontomys (Cricetidae: Sigmodontinae): New Evidence Supporting Its Distinctiveness and Endangered Status

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 54, Issue 5, Page 587-600, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The diversification of Neotropical sigmodontine rodents represents one of the most remarkable evolutionary events among mammals, encompassing numerous endemic, rare, and endangered genera and species. One of the most emblematic examples is Microakodontomys transitorius Hershkovitz 1993, originally described from a single specimen based on ...

Stochastic Dynamics of Gross Soil Nitrogen Transformations in Amazon Forests—High Local Variation but Lack of Basin‐Wide Patterns

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Tropical forests play a critical role in global climate regulation by taking up and storing significant amounts of carbon. Soil nitrogen (N) dynamics is the key to understanding forest productivity. However, we have only a very rudimentary understanding of in situ soil N transformations in the Amazon Basin, the largest intact tropical forest ...

Leaf Spot and Fruit Rot on Achachairu: Novel Diseases Caused by Lasiodiplodia theobromae

open access: yesJournal of Phytopathology, Volume 173, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT The achachairu (Garcinia humilis) is an exotic tropical fruit native to Bolivia that has recently gained commercial popularity in Brazil. In a producing region of Pernambuco, Brazil, spots and rot symptoms were observed on the leaves and fruit of G. humilis.

Functional Food Intervention Attenuates Obesity‐Induced Metabolic and Intestinal Microbiota Changes in Rats

open access: yesJournal of Obesity, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Obesity is a multifactorial disease that functional foods may counteract. These foods can be a promising dietary strategy to reduce metabolic changes. Our study evaluated the effects of a bioactive food compound (BFC) against a high‐fat diet (HFD). BFC contains oat bran, flaxseed, and textured soy protein in a 2:1:1 ratio.

Iron and aluminum forms and their relationship with texture, mineralogy and organic carbon in the Cerrado Oxisol
Formas de ferro e alumínio e suas relações com textura, mineralogia e carbono orgânico em Latossolos do Cerrado

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2011
The Oxisols of the Cerrado region have a simple mineralogy, and are composed mainly of kaolinite and iron and aluminium oxides. The aim of this work was to perform a sequential extraction of iron and aluminium and to relate them to texture, mineralogy ...
