Androgens as anabolic agents for bone

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1996
Androgens are classically considered anabolic agents, and in fact there is abundant evidence in many tissues that corroborates strong positive effects of androgens on proliferation and growth. In bone as well, there is clear evidence that androgen action is associated with an increase in skeletal mass, particularly during growth.

Anabolic agents for treating postmenopausal osteoporosis

Joint Bone Spine, 2001
The main efficacy criterion for drugs against osteoporosis is protection against fractures. Many resorption-inhibiting agents meet this criterion, including estrogens, alendronate, risedronate, raloxifene, calcitonin, and calcium-vitamin D supplements).

Anabolic agents and meat quality: A review

Meat Science, 1985

Anabolic Agents for Osteoporosis

Abstract The international VERO Trial addressed (1) whether teriparatide offers better fracture protection than risedronate, (2) which patients benefit from this treatment, and (3) the time pattern of the FRAX-defined major osteoporotic fracture (MOF) efficacy.
