Integrated Evaluation of Contaminant Profiles, Detection Techniques, and Management Strategies for Tannery Sludge

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review article critically examines the environmental and health hazards of tannery sludge (TS), a complex by‐product of the leather tanning industry. TS is characterized by a diverse array of contaminants, including heavy metals like chromium, organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds ...

Thermophilic anaerobic biodegradability of water from crude oil production in batch reactors

open access: yesRevista Técnica de la Facultad de Ingeniería, 2010
The anaerobic biodegradability of water from crude oil production coming from the extraction of light petroleum (APPL), medium petroleum (APPM) and heavy petroleum (APPP) was studied under thermophilic conditions.

Technobiological Pathways for High‐CO₂ Capture Using Micro‐/Macroalgae: Genetic Engineering, Process Automation, and Value‐Added Bioproducts

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have emerged as one of the most critical drivers of climate change; this is primarily due to high concentrations and long atmospheric life of carbon dioxide (CO2). For a significant amount of time, various biological processes such as microalgal cultivation, cyanobacterial systems, photosynthetic microorganisms ...

ANAEROBIC-AEROBIC TREATMENT OF TEXTILE WASTEWATER IN A SEQUENCING BATCH REACTOR

open access: yesScientific Study & Research: Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Industry, 2014
In this work, the treatment of synthetic textile wastewater using sequential batch reactor (SBR) was studied. This in order to predict the effectiveness of biological treatment on wastewater containing dyes while minimizing the aeration cost.

Application of Anaerobic and Ozonation Processes in the Landfill Leachate Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The optimization of leachate treatment was investigated as well as the configuration of a biological-ozonation process. The leachate used for the experiments was diluted to 1/5 with tap water and treated anaerobically.

Anaerobic degradation process of phthalic acid esters

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2006
Ten phthalic acid esters (PAEs) were tested anaerobically to assess their potential for biogas production. Results showed that biogas production decreased with the increasing alkyl chain length of PAEs resulting in its increased half-life.

Application of DR4 and BM100 Biodegradability tests to treated and untreated organic wastes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aerobic DR4 and anaerobic BM100 biodegradability tests are currently applied in England and Wales for monitoring the reduction in biological municipal waste (BMW) achieved by mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plants (Environment Agency 2005 ...

Biomethanation potential of macroalgae Ulva spp. and Gracilaria spp. and in co-digestion with waste activated sludge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Biochemical methane potential of four species of Ulva and Gracilaria genus was assessed in batch assays at mesophilic temperature. The results indicate a higher specific methane production (per volatile solids) for one of the Ulva sp. compared with other

Anaerobic biodegradation of hydrocarbons.

open access: yesScience progress, 1990
The anaerobic biodegradation of hydrocarbons has long been a subject of controversy but enough data have now been accumulated to support the view that hydrocarbons can be metabolized in the natural environment in the absence of molecular oxygen. For a limited number of molecules, anaerobic hydrocarbon metabolism has been demonstrated under fermentative
