Perioperative exercise capacity in chronic liver injury patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing hepatectomy.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Dynamic assessment of preoperative exercise capacity may be a useful predictor of postoperative prognosis. We aimed to clarify whether perioperative exercise capacity was related to long-term survival in hepatocellular carcinoma patients with chronic ...

Insertion of the FeB cofactor in cNORs lacking metal inserting chaperones

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nitric oxide reductase is an enzyme found in the bacterial denitrification pathway. The NOR active site contains a non‐heme iron, often, but not always inserted with the assistance of chaperones. Here, we study the insertion of FeB in the subfamily of cNORs lacking chaperones and found a putative channel, conserved in the family, perhaps enabling the ...

Exercise tolerance in type - 2 male diabetics

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Physiotherapy, 2002
The objective of this study was to compare the exercisetolerance of a set of male diabetic Nigerians with non-diabetic male subjects. Ten male Type-2 diabetics between the ages of 35 and 50 years in good glycaemic control and ten male non-diabetic ...

Purification and characterization of a thermophilic NAD+‐dependent lactate dehydrogenase from Moorella thermoacetica

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The thermophilic acetogenic model organism Moorella thermoacetica can utilize lactate as substrate. The formation of lactate by reduction of pyruvate is energetically favorable, but the reverse reaction, the oxidation of lactate to pyruvate with NAD+ as electron acceptor is challenging.

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

Effects of all‐out sprint interval training under hyperoxia on exercise performance

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2019
All‐out sprint interval training (SIT) is speculated to be an effective and time‐efficient training regimen to improve the performance of aerobic and anaerobic exercises.

Exercise-induced hypoxemia and anaerobic capacity in Thoroughbred horses

open access: yesJournal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, 2013
Thoroughbred racehorses have been selectively bred for racing for centuries. The excellent exercise capacity of Thoroughbreds is thought to depend largely on their extraordinarily high cardiopulmonary function.

Impact of a Right Ventricular Impedance Sensor on the Cardiovascular Responses to Exercise in Pacemaker Dependent Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background. The evaluation of the heart rate (HR) response to exercise is important for the assessment of the rate response algorithm of sensor-controlled pacemakers.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Cardiovascular Fitness and Energy Expenditure Response during a Combined Aerobic and Circuit Weight Training Protocol. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The present study describes the oxygen uptake and total energy expenditure (including both aerobic and anaerobic contribution) response during three different circuit weight training (CWT) protocols of equivalent duration composed of free weight ...
