Mitochondrial oxidative stress, calcium and dynamics in cardiac ischaemia‐reperfusion injury
Abstract figure legend Heart attack causes ischaemia–reperfusion injury in cardiomyocytes. Mitochondria generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress. High levels of mitochondrial calcium (Ca2+) activate the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP), and excess ROS levels can lower the Ca2+ required to activate the mPTP ...

Carbohydrates as a source of energy and matter for the origin of life [PDF]
Recently, we proposed a new model of early glycolysis in which the oxidation of glyceraldehyde self-hemiacetals yielded energy rich polyglyceric acid instead of energy rich thioesters.

Abstract figure legend Placental mitochondrial adaptation to gestational hypoxia. Hypoxic pregnancy in sheep increases placental insulin like growth factor 2 (IGF2) signalling (1), which is associated with a shift in capacity away from β‐oxidation (2) and complex I‐mediated respiration (3), while maintaining total oxidative phosphorylation capacity (4).

Nonenzymatic formation of energy-rich lactoyl and glyceroyl thioesters from glyceraldehyde and a thiol [PDF]
The energy rich thioester, N-acetyl-S-lactoylcysteine, is formed under anaerobic conditions from glyceraldehyde and N-acetylcysteine at ambient temperature in aqueous solutions of sodium phosphate (pH 7.0).

Influence of opioids on activity of enzymes in kidneys at no-induced apoptosis
The influence of dalarginum on activity of enzymes SOD and LDG in cells of a kidney is investigated at the production of nitric oxide. In experiment the infringement of enzymes activity is installed: the activation of anaerobic glycolysis and oppression ...

ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) with different work‐to‐rest ratios during the same training duration on the specific physical fitness of Chinese adolescent taekwondo athletes (N = 30, 16–20 years, 18 males and 12 females, and provincial champion/runner‐up or national top 6). Athletes were randomly

Diverse Subpopulations of Reactive Astrocytes Following Chronic Toxoplasma Infection
Main Points Toxoplasma infection results in distinct astrocyte subpopulations. Chronically labeled reactive astrocytes appear transcriptionally plastic and can regain acute inflammatory responding and naive homeostatic astrocytic gene patterns in the presence of ongoing neuroinflammation.

Oligoglyceric acid synthesis by autocondensation of glyceroyl thioester [PDF]
The autocondensation of the glyceroyl thioester, S-glyceroyl-ethane-thiol, yielded olioglyceric acid. The rates of autocondensation and hydrolysis of the thioester increased from pH 6.5 to pH 7.5 in 2,6-lutidine and imidazole buffers.
