An investigation into anaerobic performance of wheelchair athletes

Ergonomics, 1988
Abstract The traditional methods for assessing muscle performance have been applied to the wheelchair athlete with some success. In wheelchair athletics, as in able-bodied athletics, there are a number of short races taxing the anaerobic capacity. Previous work from this laboratory described an anaerobic test specifically for wheelchair athletes.

Anaerobic Performance Capacity in Athletes

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1977
AbstractAnaerobic performance characteristics of the whole body and at muscle tissue level were studied in 89 athletes and 31 reference subjects. The main parameters were vertical velocity during running up the stairs, maximal isometric force of leg extensor muscles, blood lactate concentration after maximal treadmill running test, percentage of fast ...

The Influence of Hydration on Anaerobic Performance

Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 2012
This review examines the influence of dehydration on muscular strength and endurance and on single and repeated anaerobic sprint bouts. Describing hydration effects on anaerobic performance is difficult because various exercise modes are dominated by anaerobic energy pathways, but still contain inherent physiological differences.

The role of anaerobic sludge recycle in improving anaerobic digester performance

Bioresource Technology, 2013
Solids retention time (SRT) is a critical parameter for the performance of anaerobic digesters (AD) in wastewater treatment plants. AD SRT should increase when active biomass is input to the AD by recycling anaerobic sludge via the wastewater-treatment tanks, creating a hybrid aerobic/anaerobic system.

Anaerobic Performance at Altitude

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 1992
Anaerobic metabolism is usually evaluated by the determination of the anaerobic capacity and the maximal anaerobic mechanical external power (Wmax). Conflicting results are reported on anaerobic capacity evaluated by maximal oxygen deficit and debt, and maximal blood lactate concentration during acute or chronic hypoxia (acclimatized subjects). Data on

Method for evaluating anaerobic digester performance

Bioresource Technology, 2010
The degradation rate and efficiency of digestion processes is typically measured by introducing a substrate or pollutant into a digester and then monitoring the effluents for the pollutant or substrate, a costly and slow process. A new method for rapid measurement of the rates and efficiencies of anaerobic degradation of pollutants and lignocellulose ...

Aerobic and Anaerobic Performances in Tethered Swimming

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2013
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the critical force (CritF) and anaerobic impulse capacity (AIC) - estimated by tethered swimming - reflect the aerobic and anaerobic performance of swimmers. 12 swimmers performed incremental test in tethered swimming to determine lactate anaerobic threshold (AnTLAC), maximal oxygen uptake ( ˙VO2MAX)

Bicarbonate Ingestion and Anaerobic Performance

Sports Medicine, 1984
Recently, the use by athletes of performanceenhancing drugs and the consequent prominence of doping control programmes have received considerable notoriety. Although most of the identified ergogenic aids have been banned from use in athletic competitions, there are some noticeable exceptions (Gledhill, 1982; Wilkes et al., 1983).

Allometry of Anaerobic Performance: A Gender Comparison

Canadian Journal of Applied Physiology, 1996
Physiological variables must often be scaled for body size differences to permit meaningful comparisons between groups. Using multivariate allometric scaling (MAS), this study aimed to compare the anaerobic performance of adult males and females in 12 pairs matched for physical activity status.

Caffeine and Anaerobic Performance

Sports Medicine, 2009
The effect caffeine elicits on endurance performance is well founded. However, comparatively less research has been conducted on the ergogenic potential of anaerobic performance. Some studies showing no effect of caffeine on performance used untrained subjects and designs often not conducive to observing an ergogenic effect.
