Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

The Role of Infiltrative Local Anaesthesia in Thyroidectomy

open access: yesThe Annals of African Surgery, 2013
Background: General anaesthesia is the anaesthetic agent of choice during thyroidectomy, however, recent reports there is a role for local anaesthesia. This study reports on the experience of thyroidectomy performed under infiltrative local anaesthesia ...

Anaesthetic complications in plastic surgery

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2013
Anaesthesia related complications in plastic surgeries are fortunately rare, but potentially catastrophic. Maintaining patient safety in the operating room is a major concern of anaesthesiologists, surgeons, hospitals and surgical facilities ...

ATZ‐1 promotes DNA replication efficiency to maintain normal meiotic function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Absence of ATZ‐1 interferes with meiotic DNA replication and cell cycle function via CHK‐1. This causes downstream defects associated with DNA damage and genomic integrity. Taken together, this study suggests that ATZ‐1 influences DNA replication efficiency and cell cycle function to maintain normal meiotic function.

THE EFFECTS OF GENERAL AND EPIDURAL ANAESTHESIA ON THE NUMBER OF LEUCOCYTES AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF LEUCOCYTES SUBGROUPS

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Medicine, 2019
General and regional anaesthesia, along with surgery compromise the immun system and affect the number and sugroup distribution of leucocytes. In this study we aimed to compere the number of leucocytes and subgroups in patients who received general ...

Evaluating the effect of γ‐oryzanol on MASLD pathology using a medaka fish model

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores a liver disease called MASLD, which is increasing worldwide and can lead to serious damage. Researchers used medaka fish instead of rodents to test a food compound, γ‐oryzanol. Fish fed this compound had less liver fat and healthier gut bacteria.

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Anaesthesia for neuroradiology [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anaesthesia, 1997
The field of radiology is a rapidly expanding and growing area in the investigation and treatment of central nervous system diseases. The role of the anaesthetist will continue to be important in the management of these patients. The anaesthetist must be prepared to modify and adapt to the changes in techniques, procedures, and to the requirements of ...
