Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Ingestion of Amniotic Fluid Enhances\ud Opiate Analgesia in Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Placenta ingestion has recently been shown to enhance opiate-mediated analgesia produced by morphine injection, footshock, or vaginal/cervical stimulation.

The challenge of evaluating pain and a pre-incisional local anesthetic block. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background. Our objective was to test the effectiveness of a local anesthetic line block administered before surgery in reducing postoperative pain scores in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy (OVHX). Methods.

Subdural Analgesia - Is there a role for that kind of analgesia?

open access: yesJournal of the Portuguese Society of Anesthesiology, 2015
Subdural injections remain a less well recognized complication of neuraxial anaesthesia. We performed a thoracic epidural block for analgesia after multiple rib fractures. A loading dose of ropivacaine 0.2% was given and an infusion started at 5 ml/h. Twenty minutes after, the patient presented symptoms of high sensory block, with no evidence of motor

Patients' Global Impression of Change (PGIC) Score Compared to Monthly Migraine Days to Evaluate Treatment Persistence With Anti‐CGRP Monoclonal Antibodies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study assessed whether continued treatment with anti‐CGRP monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) is driven more by reductions in monthly migraine days (MMDs) or patients' global impression of change (PGIC), a patient‐reported outcome. Among 169 patients treated with anti‐CGRP mAbs, 21.3% discontinued due to ineffectiveness. PGIC responders (≥ 5) at

A common neuronal ensemble in nucleus accumbens regulates pain-like behaviour and sleep

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
A comorbidity of chronic pain is sleep disturbance. Here, we identify a dual-functional ensemble that regulates both pain-like behaviour induced by chronic constrictive injury or complete Freund’s adjuvant, and sleep wakefulness, in the nucleus accumbens

Glycosylation Gene Signatures as Prognostic Biomarkers in Glioblastoma

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor characterized by significant heterogeneity. This study investigates the role of glycosylation‐related genes in GBM subtyping, prognosis, and response to therapy. Methods We analyzed mRNA expression data and clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression ...

Comparison of the effects of propofol and alfaxalone on the electrocardiogram of dogs, with particular reference to QT interval

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Cardiac electrical activity is often altered by administration of anesthetic drugs. While the effects of propofol in this regard have previously been described in dogs, to date, there are no reports of the effect of alfaxalone.
