Neural Network DPD for Aggrandizing SM-VCSEL-SSMF-Based Radio over Fiber Link Performance

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
This paper demonstrates an unprecedented novel neural network (NN)-based digital predistortion (DPD) solution to overcome the signal impairments and nonlinearities in Analog Optical fronthauls using radio over fiber (RoF) systems.

Comparison of Transmitter Nonlinearity Impairments in externally modulated Sigma-Delta-over Fiber vs Analog Radio-over-Fiber links [Elektronisk resurs]

open access: yes, 2022
Sigma-Delta-over-Fiber and Analog-Radio-over-Fiber are compared in terms of non-linearity impairments in a transmitter with external optical modulation. The results show that Sigma-Delta-over-Fiber is more robust towards nonlinear characteristics in the ...

NR Conformance Testing of Analog Radio-over-LWIR FSO Fronthaul link for 6G Distributed MIMO Networks

open access: yes, 2023
We experimentally test the compliance with 5G/NR 3GPP technical specifications of an analog radio-over-FSO link at 9 mu m. The ACLR and EVM transmitter requirements are fulfilled validating the suitability of LWIR FSO for 6G fronthaul.

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Performance Limits of Direct Wideband Coherent 3D Localization in Distributed Massive MIMO Systems

open access: yesSensors, 2021
We address the accuracy of wideband direct position estimation of a radio transmitter via a distributed antenna array in 5G cellular systems. Our derivations are based only on the presence of spatially coherent line-of-sight (LoS) signal components ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Ultra-Wideband Analog Radio-over-Fiber Communication System Employing Pulse-Position Modulation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This research presents a novel approach to 28 GHz impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) transmission using pulse position modulation (PPM) over an analog radio-over-fiber (ARoF) link, investigating the impact of fiber-based fronthaul on the overall ...

Phase Fluctuation Cancellation for Uplink Radar Arrays Based on Passive Frequency Mixing

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
Precise time-difference detections among different radars in uplink radar arrays require ultrastable phase transfer in bidirectional analog optical fiber links.

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...
