Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

La flessibilità dell’organizzazione biologica. Strutture e funzioni alla luce di un modello gerarchico e pluralista dell’omologia

open access: yesRivista di Estetica, 2016
The aim of this paper is to show that the assumption of a hierarchical paradigm as regards the biological organization allows giving a new formulation to the concept of homology, and accordingly to the unity of evolution, that can be also extended to all

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Like artificial trees? The effect of framing by natural analogy on public perceptions of geoengineering

open access: yesClimatic Change, 2015
The linguistic frames used to describe new areas of science and technology can have a powerful effect on the way that those technologies are perceived by the general public.

Learning Analogies and Semantic Relations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present an algorithm for learning from unlabeled text, based on the Vector Space Model (VSM) of information retrieval, that can solve verbal analogy questions of the kind found in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Stone Bracelet Production in Mali

open access: yesInternet Archaeology, 2009
In order to understand the manufacture of stone bangles in Neolithic France, we visited the Hombori region of Mali, to study the last surviving generation of makers of stone bangles there. From our field observations and from many interviews with various

Allameh Hilli and Thomas Aquinas on semantics of divine attributes [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهشنامه فلسفه دین, 2014
One of the major issues in the names and attributes of God, is the semantic interpretation of how to interpret and apply the concepts and predicates that talk about God.
