Mean variance optimization of non-linear systems and worst-case analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper, we consider expected value, variance and worst-case optimization of nonlinear models. We present algorithms for computing optimal expected values, and variance, based on iterative Taylor expansions.

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Moldaviae: Stiinte reale si ale naturii, 2016
При сравнении дисперсионного анализа с законом нормального распределения разработан новый математически облегченный метод дисперсионного анализа для биологов, позволяющий в полевых агрономических опытах выделять влияние регулируемого воздействия на ...

Discharge and turbidity of the regulated River Tees. Variance spectrum analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
High suspended sediment loads may be deleterious to adult salmonids and invertebrates in gravel-bedded streams. Further, the accumulation of fine material in the interstices of the gravel may have an adverse impact on the recruitment of the young stages ...

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

For Better Fat Graft Outcome in Soft Tissue Augmentation: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2018
Background Autologous fat grafts are widely used in plastic surgery, but they have the disadvantage of unpredictability due to variable resorption. This meta-analysis examined the literature on the survival rate of autologous fat grafts using objective ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

How much foreign stocks? : Bayesian approaches to asset allocation can explain the home bias of US investors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
US investors hold much less foreign stocks than mean/variance analysis applied to historical data predicts. In this article, we investigate whether this home bias can be explained by Bayesian approaches to international asset allocation.
