Characterization of stratified EPS and their role in the initial adhesion of anammox consortia.

Water Research, 2019
Anammox bacteria tend to self-aggregate, and biofilm-based anammox processes are widely used as sustainable alternative methods for nitrogen removal from wastewater. However, the mechanism for the initial adhesion of anammox bacteria remains unclear.

Influence of Tourmaline on the Activity of ANAMMOX Bacteria and ANAMMOX Reaction

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2018
AbstractThe performance of the anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) process was investigated in two identical sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) [designated as SBR1 (tourmaline addition) and SBR2 (...

Flexible nitrite supply alternative for mainstream anammox: Advances in enhancing process stability.

Environmental Science and Technology, 2020
Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) has attracted extensive attention as a potentially sustainable and economical municipal wastewater treatment. However, its large-scale application is limited by unstable nitrite (NO2--N) production and associated ...

Faster through training: The anammox case

Water Research, 2015
Anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (anammox) bacteria based technologies are widely applied for nitrogen removal from warm (25-40 °C) wastewater with high ammonium concentrations (∼1 gNH4-N L(-1)). Extension of the operational window of this energy and resource efficient process is restricted by the "supposed" low growth rate of the responsible ...

Effects of oxytetracycline on anammox activity

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2012
Batch experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of oxytetracycline on anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process. The short-and long-term effects on anammox activity were studied by measuring ammonium (NH(4)(+)), nitrite (NO(2)(-)), and nitrate (NO(3)(-)) concentrations over time.

Nitrogen management in landfill leachate: Application of SHARON, ANAMMOX and combined SHARON–ANAMMOX process

Waste Management, 2012
In today's context of waste management, landfilling of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is considered to be one of the standard practices worldwide. Leachate generated from municipal landfills has become a great threat to the surroundings as it contains high concentration of organics, ammonia and other toxic pollutants.

Anammox enrichment from different conventional sludges

Chemosphere, 2007
Three sets of sequencing batch reactor (SBR) were used for Anammox enrichment from conventional sludges including upflow anaerobic sludge blanket, activated sludge, and anaerobic digestion sludge. After four months of operation, the Anammox activity occurred in all reactors allowing continuous removal of ammonium and nitrite.

Long-term preservation of anammox bacteria

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2011
Deposit of useful microorganisms in culture collections requires long-term preservation and successful reactivation techniques. The goal of this study was to develop a simple preservation protocol for the long-term storage and reactivation of the anammox biomass.

[Enrichment regulation of anammox bacteria in the anammox start-up process].

Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2015
To study the enrichment regulation of anammox bacteria during the whole start-up process of anammox reaction, two reactors with addition of carries of Spherical Plastic (SP) and Bamboo Charcoal (BC) and one without carrier (CK) were used to start anammox reaction. Then FISH and q-PCR analyses for the growth of all anammox bacteria were conducted during

Siderophore-Mediated Cooperation in Anammox Consortia

Environmental Science & Technology
It has been widely accepted that iron plays an important role in stimulating the activity of anammox bacteria, which contain many iron clusters for electron transport in cells. However, whether anammox bacteria could directly use and how to uptake Fe(III) have been long-time ignored. Here, we found that micrometer-scale magnetite with the size of 10-20
