Full-scale granular sludge Anammox process

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2007
The start-up of the first full scale Anammox reactor is complete. The reactor shows stable operation, even at loading rates of 10 kg N/m3.d. This performance is the result of the formation of Anammox granules, which have a high density and settling velocities exceeding 100 m/h.

Anammox—Growth Physiology, Cell Biology, and Metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (anammox) bacteria are the last major addition to the nitrogen-cycle (N-cycle). Because of the presumed inert nature of ammonium under anoxic conditions, the organisms were deemed to be nonexistent until about 15 years ago.

Global patterns and drivers of coupling between anammox and denitrification processes across inland aquatic ecosystems

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Denitrification and anammox collectively drive nitrogen loss from aquatic ecosystems, yet their global patterns and interactions remain unclear. To fill this gap in knowledge, we compiled a global dataset on anammox and denitrification, encompassing ...

How resistant is anammox biofilm against antibiotics: A special insight into anammox response towards fluoroquinolones. [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon
Elevated concentrations of pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) in the water bodies are posing a serious threat to the aquatic microbiota and other organisms. In this context, anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (anammox) bacteria carry a great potential to degrade PhACs through their innate metabolic pathways.

The Effect of Arable Land Management on the Reaction of Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation (Anammox): A Meta-Analysis

open access: yesAgronomy
Soil anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) can eliminate reactive nitrogen (N) without generating nitrous oxide and is a key factor in N loss in agricultural ecosystems.

An overlooked nanofluids effect from Fe3O4 nanoparticles enhances mass transfer in anammox granular sludge

open access: yesWater Research X
Magnetite (Fe3O4) particles have been widely reported to enhance the anammox's activity in anammox granular sludge (AnGS), yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

The enhancement of anammox by graphene-based and iron-based nanomaterials in performance and mechanisms

open access: yesnpj Clean Water
Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) is a cost-effective biological nitrogen removal technology, yet its time-consuming start-up and significant environmental sensitivity are major barriers to its widespread use.

Optimizing start-up strategies for the two-inflow nitritation/anammox process: Influence on biofilm microbial community composition

open access: yesWater Science and Technology
Low-energy nitrogen removal from ammonium-rich wastewater is crucial in preserving the water environment. A one-stage nitritation/anammox process with two inflows treating ammonium-containing wastewater, supplied from inside and outside the wound filter,
